Lawson State Community College (LSCC) Dean of Workforce Development and Career Technical Education, Grant Cockrell, along with Workforce Development Specialists, Joshua Caton and Tanisha Rankins read to Pre-K - 5th grade students on Wednesday & Thursday at Jonesboro Elementary School. The students in our Lineworker training program continue to build their physical fitness, strength, endurance and visual acuity this week, as they get closer to completion. In partnership with Alabama Power Company, the Lawson State Line Worker Program is a Fast-Track program consisting of 10 weeks of full-time training. The graduating students earned their OSHA 10 cards, CPR certification, CDL license, Fiber Optics Certificate, and 300+ hours of hands-on Line Worker Training. This program offers students an opportunity to begin an exciting career with great pay. Lawson State Community College - Office of Workforce Development (LSCC-OWD) kicked off Read Across America week with a visit to Brighton School this morning, reading to Pre-K4 through 2nd grade students. The students received a custom bookmark to remember the importance of reading and be reminded that it's always a great day to read a book! Read Across America Day is celebrated annually and is also known as Dr. Seuss Day. LSCC-OWD will be reading across Jefferson County and Birmingham City Schools all week to promote the importance of reading.
