REFLECTING ON MY VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE AT THE LAGOS STUDENT CAREER EXPO: Hello LinkedIn community, it's been a while since my last update. I thought I’d share my latest adventure in volunteering at the Lagos Students Career Expo. On Saturday, May 18, the University of Lagos hosted one of the largest student career events; The LSCE 1.0. I jumped at the chance to volunteer and chose the welfare team, eager for a new experience (and perhaps the joy that comes with handling all the party jollof and refreshments, haha????). Two days before the event, we met to brainstorm and clarify our roles but it soon became clear that the organizers had underestimated the capacity of the 2,500-seat Ade àjàyí Auditorium, University of Lagos. Having been on the planning committee for the previous Academic Counseling Seminar (ACS), where I led the Publicity and Media team, I offered my insights to help restructure the volunteer teams. Recognizing my experience, I was asked if I could lead the newly formed Media team, and I accepted despite having only 48 hours to prepare and a team of three inexperienced members with no materials. I reached out to my former ACS team members, who rallied to support us. With 0% preparation but 100% composure (as they say it these days??), we made it happen. Alhamdulillah, the event was a success, and our team delivered outstanding results. Special thanks to the convener, Salaam Muminah, and organizers Abdullah Mumuni, SFC?, Aisha Mudathir, and Monsurah Ahmad, and others for the opportunity. Looking forward to LSCE2.0! I also say a big thank you to my teammates and other beautiful minds I worked with. It was great working with each and everyone of you! Khadijah Abdul Awwal, Ettu Faruq, Takbirah Mayale-Eke, NURUDEEN OGUNDIPE Umar Mustafa, Jesus Akanle, Baruwa Saidat, Adams Muadh, Roqeebat Abdulwahab, Sulaiman Waliyah, Sodiq Abdulraheem, Hanifah Morayo Abdulazeez, Maryam Dauda, Mutiu Azeezah, and all others. This experience reinforced the importance of teamwork and leveraging past experiences (or people) to overcome new challenges. I’m proud of what we achieved both at ACS and LSCE and I look forward to more opportunities to contribute and grow. Till I write again ??. #VolunteerExperience #lsce #Teamwork

2500+ students. 30+ exhibitors. 10+ schools. 1 event. We did that On May 18th, 2024, my team and I successfully hosted the largest student career expo, the Lagos Students Career Expo. If you asked me if I could manage something like this a year ago, I'd be very skeptical but closer to saying no. Chances are I'd have actually said "I don't think so, I just started project management and I barely know the basics". Fast forward to February 2024, my friend, Salaam Muminah invited me to manage LSCE. I knew I was taking a big step towards my project management journey. An exciting quest began and I still felt like I wasn't the "man" for the job. On the quest, I met amazing people and built my skills from #communication to #leadership to #properdocumentation to #changemanagement to #teammanagement and more. If I had to list three important things I learned from working on LSCE, they'd be: 1. ?????? ?????????? ???? ??????????????: Half of the partners we got were through networks. I got into LSCE through my relationship with Muminah. Some other people got into LSCE through their relationship with me. The team was built on #network. It's all #connection. 2. ???? ???????????? ?????????????? ???? ???????? ?????????????? ????????: I love #projectmanagement but I don't do well with verbal communication. I'd stutter or won't even hear what I'm saying. There were times I messed up because I was socially anxious but I killed it the next time. 3. ???? ???? ??????????????: You really don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to START and figure it out on the way. The higher you reach, the bigger your problems and the smarter you become. I've learned so much by just saying yes to this and I'd say yes to others to come. What if I had declined the invite because I was pessimistic? Well, I wouldn't be the one telling this story. So to those who are pessimistic about their abilities, who are too scared to leave their comfort zone, who are reliant on infinite theories, I DARE you to do the opposite. Take a leap of faith and see how high you go. A huge thank you to the people who made it all happen, my amazing team members Salaam Muminah, Abdullah Mumuni, SFC?, Eniola Adeosun, Abdulafis Olanrewaju, Monsurah Ahmad, Favour Emmanuel, Solomon Madufor. Thank you to our speakers Egharevba Stephanie Chisom Nwokwu Glory Eguabor Eve Chukwuma Bright Sekoni Margareth Egbuchulam Chibuzor Ossai Tumi Adeyemi. Thank you to the volunteers who came through to ensure the success of the event. Connect with me if you are into #projectmanagement, #productmanagement, #leadership, #eventmanagement, #exploring

I had an amazing time last Saturday, serving as a Panelist at the first edition of The Lagos Students Career Expo (LSCE 1.0), a career fair organized by Salaam Muminah and her team, in conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education. 2500+ Students from practically every public tertiary institution and some secondary schools in Lagos state, gathered at the J. F. Ajayi Main Auditorium, University of Lagos for a time of learning, networking and connecting. I spoke on the panel session "Crafting a Globally Competitive Career: Strategies for thriving in any location" which is a blend of #RemoteWork, #GlobalCareers, #Upskilling and The #FutureofWork... A summary of everything I always love to talk about. It was so much fun talking about building a career that spans beyond geographical borders and allows you shine regardless of time zones, physical location and perceived limitations, along with my fellow Panelists. Special thanks to Salaam Muminah, Eniola Adeosun and the entire Lagos Students Career Expo team for a highly successful and very impressive event. I spoke to close to 2500 people at LSE, my largest assembly ever, delivering an impromptu speech, unplanned, unscripted and it was quite scary.?? This is how it went ? First off, I am introverted and I hardly go out, except I have been invited to speak at an event. However, this Saturday was different, I was home, feeling bored and I felt like going out, I Just wanted to get out of the house ?? Then I came across an exhibitor's status about the Lagos Students Career Expo and asked if I could come around, fortunately, I could. But something felt off, I recognised the event and going quickly through my messages, I realised I was sent an invitation from the convener, Salaam Muminah, at the beginning of the year but I couldn't respond. Anyway, I was there, amongst the audience, to learn... Something then happened?? One of the speaker's management came over and asked, "Are you a speaker?", to which I answered, no, and her next words caused my heart to sink. "Then you are not supposed to be sitting here" Oh my God! My enemies have finally gotten to me! ???? Some panellists were on stage and I wasn't particularly sure if I was on any of their sit, so to avoid creating a scene, I quietly stepped out. This is typical of what an introvert would do, we avoid things like this ?? I stepped out and pretended like I was just coming in, so an usher could find me a sit. That was when I met the convener, almost like a saviour had come, then I explained myself and she took me to the first row Phew! That was such a relief ??. But again, Muminah asked if I would like to speak, and the inner me instantly said NO, 'cause that wasn't why I left the house in the first place. Nevertheless, I accepted the challenge however, I was nervous for a few seconds, I had to calm myself and pray to God, "Father, come and help your boy again, give me the courage to speak to these souls" As I stood on stage, brimming through an audience I had never stood against before, I began my speech on a light note. I spoke about one of the greatest desires of young people, it is perhaps something we have in common, regardless of our race, religion or tribe. It is a characteristic that has happened across the history of man and is bound to still happen for generations to come. How can I transition from being a 'nobody' to having a successful career that gives me access to a great network, expands my resources and earns me a reputation for which I will be celebrated in the world? It is two important things, what you know and what you can do. When you fill these buckets appropriately it will inadvertently take care of these desires we want. But sadly, we live in a time where people focus on the outcome instead of the process that births these results. So do all it takes to always focus on your knowledge and your skills for it determines the trajectory of your life and is a clear predictor of your future. True prosperity is what you know and what you can do. Repost? ?
