It was another great morning of networking and learning for Central Georgia LPCA in Warner Robins at The Lindsey Student Support Center, sponsored by Deanna L Schultz with Revealing Strength Counseling. After briefly reviewing how to implement suitable therapeutic interventions and a few theories related to applying those interventions, the group shared many favorite therapeutic activities. There are too many to share, ranging from ways to turn board games into a therapy activity to getting clients ready for their sessions to the latest phone/tablet app. And 2 free CEs were issued! Join us at our next event, a Coffee and Chat, on October 26 from 10AM to 12PM at the Taste and See in Macon, Georgia. We hope to see you there!

NEWS BRIEF- FTC Report on Pharmacy Benefit Managers Profiting At The Expense Of Patients The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released an interim report highlighting the significant impact of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) on the accessibility and affordability of prescription drugs in the United States. The report, part of an ongoing inquiry since 2022, emphasizes how six major PBMs control nearly 95% of all prescriptions filled due to increased vertical integration and market concentration. Key findings from the report include: 1. Market Control: The top six PBMs manage most prescriptions, influencing drug availability and pricing nationwide. 2. Impact on Affordability: PBMs' practices contribute to higher drug costs for patients, including overcharging for medications like cancer drugs, which can lead to patients rationing their medication. 3. Effect on Independent Pharmacies: Independent pharmacies, crucial in rural areas, face challenges due to unfair contractual terms imposed by PBMs, affecting their ability to compete and serve communities. 4. Vertical Integration: PBMs are integrated with large health insurers and pharmacies, allowing them to steer patients towards affiliated businesses, potentially disadvantaging smaller, independent pharmacies. 5. Transparency Issues: Lack of transparency in PBM operations makes it difficult for patients and independent pharmacists to understand PBM decisions' true costs and impacts on drug access. 6. FTC Actions: The FTC has issued orders to major PBMs to gather information, but some PBMs have been slow in compliance, hindering the FTC's ability to oversee and regulate the industry effectively. Overall, the FTC's interim report underscores the critical role PBMs play in the pharmaceutical supply chain and highlights concerns about their market power, impact on drug pricing, and the need for greater transparency and accountability in their operations. Let's raise awareness and stay informed to advocate for our clients who might be impacted by these practices. We will continue to keep you informed as more information comes our way! We are hoping that those reading this will have a better understanding of the issue.
