This past weekend we were honored to travel to Stanford University to attend the Student-Run Business Association's 2024 Surge Expo. 5 Loyola Led employees were selected to attend the conference – Katie Golson, Archer Heeren, Izabella DiPiazza, Matthew Castellanos, and Danielle Omer – to learn and listen from industry leaders and fellow student led businesses. On day 1 we were able to listen to great advice from Neal Sales-Griffin of Techstars as the keynote speaker, and afterwards we watched the pitch competition, where several young student entrepreneurs pitched their business ventures to a set of VC fund judges, who deliberated and chose a winner. Afterwards, we were treated to an incredible tour of Stanford’s campus and stopped for a happy hour at The Arbor on campus to wrap up the day. Day 2 brought much of the same, but with a larger focus on learning from each other’s experiences, particularly involving student run businesses. Starting with a workshop from Arantxa Valverde and Lilliana Robinson on how to learn as young entrepreneurs. Next up we had the incredible opportunity to listen to entrepreneurs and industry leaders Mark Cuban and Seth Godin dish out advice to our individual businesses. Lastly, Loyola Led was excited to participate in 2 workshops: Food & Beverage and Leading a Team of Peers. These workshops provided a great opportunity for discussion between different student enterprises on how we can work to better each other and continue to innovate and improve. A great deal of thanks to the entire SRBA, and specifically to Owen Raisch and Jas Espinosa for their hospitality and guidance throughout the entire conference.
