Ever work with someone who just operates differently? ? We see it all the time. Different work styles can either create tension or drive success—depending on how well teams understand them.? ? Let’s take Leah, a Persuader, and Sara, an Analyzer, as an example. ? Leah is fast-paced, big-picture, and thrives on conversation. She rallies people around ideas and pushes for action.? ? Sara, on the other hand, is methodical and detail-driven. She ensures clarity, precision, and well-thought-out decisions. ? Where do they clash? Leah moves quickly—Sara prefers structure. Leah jumps into conversations—Sara processes first. Leah sees broad possibilities—Sara digs into specifics. These differences could slow them down—or make them stronger. ? How do they make it work? They use their Predictive Index insights to adapt. Leah schedules discussions instead of dropping in unannounced. Sara actively engages Leah to ensure alignment. Leah powers momentum—Sara keeps things grounded. ? Great teams don’t erase differences—they harness them. Founder “Guide, Don’t Drive?” Leadership Movement, 2 Time TEDx Speaker, Keynote Speaker, CEO, Investor, Board Member. Inspiring leaders to Get Real and Lead.

I get a lot of people asking me, What is Guide, Don’t Drive?? It’s simple: Most leaders try to drive performance, but driving creates resistance. When you guide instead, you get better results, stronger accountability, and a team that takes ownership. Here are 10 of the core principles of Guide, Don’t Drive?: 1. Get the Best For Your Team, Not Just From Them – Leadership isn’t about extracting performance; it’s about helping people achieve their own goals. 2. Know Them, Grow Them – You can’t guide someone if you don’t understand them. Learn their motivations and challenges. 3. Teach Problem Solving, Don’t Solve Problems for Them – Stop being the answer key. Ask the right questions to help them think for themselves. 4. Turn Accountability Into a Positive Experience – The right accountability isn’t punishment; it’s about progress and ownership. 5. Guide Through Change, Don’t Force It – People resist what they don’t understand. Involve them in shaping the change. 6. Lead with Influence, Not Authority – Command and control don’t work long-term. Influence builds trust and commitment. 7. Use Empathy Without Lowering Standards – Support your team, but don’t make excuses for poor performance. 8. Make Difficult Conversations Learning Conversations – Tough talks don’t have to be confrontations. They’re opportunities for growth. 9. Let Them Ride the Bike – Give support, but let them learn through experience - even if it means falling a few times. 10. Build a Culture of Ownership, Not Dependence – A great leader creates an environment where people take responsibility on their own. Most leaders don’t realize they’re driving instead of guiding. Which of these key principles do you think leaders struggle with the most? Ready to be the Guide instead of always Driving? Ready to influence your leaders to be guides? Ready to buck the traditonal leadership approaches that seem to never work?
