The?IGA Academy?is?super proud?to have delivered its?first online workshop?on?policies and regulations in the geothermal space!?The session was well received, with great engagement, thought-provoking questions, and inspiring discussions. One key takeaway??To advance geothermal, we need to understand what it is we regulate—and for that, we need to legislate.?Clear, stable, and well-structured policies are essential to derisk investment, incentivize innovation, and scale geothermal solutions globally. This prestigious global event brings together industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and innovators to shape the future of geothermal energy. With a legacy spanning over three decades, the WGC is the premier platform for advancing geothermal development worldwide. The next edition, WGC2026, will be hosted in Calgary, Canada, and now, the IGA is seeking proposals for the host of WGC2029. ?????? ?????????????? ???????????? ?????????????????? For the first time, the IGA offers two financial models to accommodate a broad range of potential hosts: - IGA-Led Model: Ideal for cities, tourism agencies, and companies interested in hosting WGC2029 while the IGA maintains financial control. The host supports event execution by securing sponsorships, funding, and local partnerships. - Host-Led Model: Designed for national geothermal associations or consortiums, where the host assumes full financial responsibility and operational control, with the IGA receiving a revenue share. Hosting WGC2029 offers global visibility, economic impact, and leadership in the renewable energy sector. This year’s theme, "Progress at Scale," resonated strongly as we explored solutions for a sustainable energy transition. ?? A key highlight for me was the in-depth discussions on geothermal energy—its potential, challenges, and the innovations driving its scale-up. The IGA had productive meetings with Baker Hughes leadership on sustainability and geothermal development, reinforcing the critical role geothermal plays in providing clean firm power, supporting AI-driven energy demand, and enabling industrial decarbonization. ?? The event featured insightful plenary sessions, visionary keynotes, and a cutting-edge Solutions Fair, where technologies accelerating geothermal, hydrogen, carbon management, and energy efficiency took center stage. Attending this meeting reaffirmed the importance of collaboration across industries, policy stability, and technology-driven solutions in ensuring geothermal reaches its full potential within the energy mix. ????
