We found Mika's babies weeks before she was finally found and brought to us. We're so happy to see that she's living her best life as a "working cat" in her role as a shopkeeper! A lot of our employees get asked by friends and family how they take care of animals daily and not get attached. The truth is we do get attached, and some goodbyes are bittersweet. What we love is when a 'goodbye' becomes a 'see you later,' and see pets like Mika get all the love they deserve ??

Jackie Clarkson was a fierce advocate for not just the people of New Orleans during her tenure as a City Councilperson, but also their pets as a lifelong supporter of the Louisiana SPCA. In 2011 she and New Orleans City Council were awarded the LASPCA Humanitarian Award for her commitment to advancement and well-being of companion animals. Following the catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, Jackie was instrumental in rebuilding the Louisiana SPCA by partnering with her daughter, award winning actor Patricia Clarkson, to host a fundraiser in New York City. We will all miss her dearly, but know that her legacy and work lives on for each animal we are able to help.?

Meet Hattie and her two adorable puppies, Tia and Tamara. Hattie's journey to the Louisiana SPCA began with a distressing 911 report, dispatching our New Orleans Humane Law & Rescue officers.?In challenging living conditions, Hattie and her puppies were discovered without an owner by our Humane Law & Rescue team who swiftly ensured their safety. Hattie's spirit remained unbroken. Her gentle demeanor and unwavering love for Tia and Tamara shined through. Each day is a new chapter of joyful discovery, as Hattie teaches her puppies the wonders of the world, from chasing butterflies to cuddling during naptime.?They remind us that love transcends all boundaries, even in the most challenging circumstances. Soon, each of them will be ready for adoption and will go their separate ways, though they'll always serve as a reminder that every dog can blossom into a beloved family member with a little kindness, regardless of their past. In the meantime, through the caring hands of LASPCA's foster program, Hattie and her daughters found a sanctuary of warmth and compassion. Medical care, nourishing meals, and plenty of playtime became their daily routine, replacing the neglect and hardship they once endured. In honor of May being National Foster Care Month, we want to express the changes you can make aside from adopting. Fostering saves lives.
