A Truly Rewarding Night! 7x24 Exchange DC Chapter partnered with the Loudoun Education Foundation (LEF) and FUELED for the fifth consecutive year, raising an incredible $37,562 in donations. FUELED provides vital support to 2,000 Loudoun County students and their families each week, delivering meal bags and stocking in-school pantries. A heartfelt thank you to all the companies who generously supported this year’s effort and the hard-working/ kindhearted volunteers (representing a variety of trades and data center companies) who packed 1,400 meals. Kudos to HITT Contracting Inc. for showing up in force with a team of 20 volunteers. A special shoutout to Kelly Burke, the Mayor of Leesburg, for stopping by to highlight the importance of feeding underserved students and the impact that 7x24 has had over the past five years in supporting FUELED's mission. Thank you Marshall Sorenson, DBIA for your endless devotion to this cause, the FUELED team for your coordination, and all involved behind the scenes (Trisann Ferrigno, Lillian Rivera, Brian Tinsman, Michelle Thompson). Congratulations to Ms. Boyd and Ms. Mach for being out March SHINE award winners! ??SHINE- Spotlighting Heroes in Education- honor Loudoun County Public Schools staff who set exemplary and sometimes heroic standards. ?? Ms. Boyd and Ms. Mach’s exceptional care and quick thinking saved a second-grade student at Mountain View Elementary School. They noticed unusual signs in the child’s demeanor, acted swiftly by alerting the school nurse, and connected with the child’s parents. The student was hospitalized, diagnosed with absent seizures, and ultimately discovered to have a brain tumor. Thanks to their vigilance, the condition was addressed promptly, leading to successful surgery and recovery. The parents and school community are deeply grateful for their dedication and the life-saving connections they built with their student. ?? Join us in applauding these true heroes! ?? As part of the project, students got to work on designing their own robots using Vex Robotics materials. "Thanks to the LEF, we were able to extend our students' knowledge of coding by giving the kids a chance to work collaboratively to make their own robot designs. This week, the LEF team got to be a fly on the wall as Athari Bio + Sciences Founder and CEO Susan Mitchell spoke to students at the Health and Medical Sciences (HAMSci) Academy. ?? This brand new program represents the heart of LEF’s mission: collaborating with local business partners such as Athari to support Loudoun County Public Schools students. Three years ago, the HAMsci Academy started with the spark of an idea, as LEF set out to raise enough funds to launch the program. On Feb 19. students had the chance to make horn telescopes with representatives from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Think Big Space at J.L. Simpson Middle School. ?? What is a horn telescope? If you were trying to hear a whisper from across the room you’d have to cup your hands around your ears to focus the sound. A horn telescope does just that, only for radio waves from space! It has a big, flared out metal funnel shaped like a horn which guides radio waves from space to a special probe.
