All my colleagues likely know that October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth, but do you know the British chemist who synthesized tamoxifen for the first time in the 1960s and whose name is on tamoxifen's patent? You may not know because she is a lost woman in science. Chemist Dora Richardson's impact is undeniable, as tamoxifen is commonly used both to treat and prevent breast cancer. Dora's story, however, hasn't been told until now, and it's time to celebrate the remarkable difference she's made in the lives of countless patients. Learn more about Dora's story in the Lost Women of Science podcast hosted by Katie H., and featuring Viviane Quirke https://lnkd.in/guT6euYp I also invite you to listen to the Precision Health and PGx Podcast's upcoming episode, "A Pharmacist's Breast Cancer Story: How Pharmacogenomics Testing Shaped Her Treatment and Factors Influencing PGx Testing Becoming a Standard of Care for Tamoxifen." We are producing this episode to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness and American Pharmacist's Month and will let you know as soon as it hits your favorite #podcast listening platform. In her book Wonder Drug, Jennifer Vanderbes explores thalidomide’s secret history in the U.S. The drug was never approved for sale in the U.S. but thousands of people took it in so-called clinical trials. Vanderbes discovered that there were far more people harmed by thalidomide than originally thought—at least 10 times more. Listen to our episode where we talk to Jennifer: https://lnkd.in/gNRSJdSy
