We rocked out to the incredible tunes of Blaze and Friends, savored some amazing beer, and experienced a slice of beach life right here in Idaho – on a Tuesday night! With a little bit of thoughtful planning, and a lot of collaboration (including by our incredible guests), Shade City Brewfest’s total waste was only 125lbs! ?? Our teams spent extra energy focused on managing waste streams by diverting as much as possible to compost and avoiding waste-producing practices to begin with. This is super important because every 10lbs of food waste that reaches the landfill generates 5lbs of CO2e. We’re proud to say that the entire 2-day,?2,000+ person event produced only: > 100 lbs of compost > 6 lbs of recycling > 19 lbs of waste to landfill That’s only 0.01 lbs of waste to landfill per guest!!!! The 3rd annual Shade City Brewfest is only 10 days away! It’s hard to believe that this idea was ?? “brewed-up” ?? right before COVID crushed our community back in early 2020 with a few friends & colleagues at Treasure Valley Canopy Network & Lost Grove Brewing, LLC. Fast forward to today in 2024 and this has fast become THE BEST Earth Day celebration in Idaho. This blog post from Treasure Valley Canopy Network & ClimateHound takes a look back at the purpose behind “Shade City” and the wonderful sustainability & impact focused companies and non-profit organizations who are doing great work across Idaho every day. Back in 2020, Lost Grove Brewing and Treasure Valley Canopy Network came together with an idea: “What if we hosted an annual brewfest for Idaho that celebrates all of our purposeful companies and organizations? And what if this annual celebration, on Earth Day, showcased how a large community event can celebrate with local food and drink AND minimize waste and emissions so that we have minimal impact on our environment and maximum fun!” Fast-forward to 2024, and now Lost Grove Brewing and Treasure Valley Canopy Network are hosting, in partnership with Idaho Botanical Garden and City Of Good, the third annual Shade City Brewfest on April 19 & 20.
