Wednesday’s event, Tides of Transformation: Advancing Workforce Solutions in the Blue Economy at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center & Hotel brought together regional leaders, educators, and industry partners to explore bold, innovative strategies in workforce development and climate action. A heartfelt thank you to our BECAP Regional Project Co-Leads, Dr. Tricia G. Ramos, Ed.D., Dean at Santa Monica College, and Sandra Sanchez, Dean at Los Angeles Harbor College, for co-chairing this impactful convening. The event was a powerful demonstration of the region’s commitment to building sustainable career pathways in the Blue Economy. Special thanks to Dr. Luis Dorado, President of LA Harbor College and LARC CEO Co-Chair, for his inspirational remarks and continued support of the #19Strong collaborative efforts across our region. We also recognize Dr. Jo Tavares, West Los Angeles College Director for the CA Center for Climate Change Education, for her exceptional leadership in the BECAP regional project and her role in driving forward climate-centered education at the state level. JETSI is the first battery-electric truck project jointly funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Energy Commission (CEC), with additional support from South Coast AQMD, MSRC, San Pedro Bay Ports, and SCE. This initiative not only reduces emissions but also creates career opportunities and economic mobility, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
