A thoughtful and cogent article with evidence-based information. It explains the importance of equity in healthcare and underscores why curiosity, and critical thinking have long-standing roots in public education, just ask most K-12 teachers (and university professors) they often teach us the value in asking, “Why?” Equity in healthcare is not a political agenda. Long ago it was a premise but ultimately, it became the foundation for the first federal law to address disability equity and access; known as the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Rehab Act was the first federal law to prohibit discrimination based on disability in federal employment, federal contractors, and programs that receive federal funding. It also provides rehabilitative services for people with physical or mental impairments. See Sections 501, 503, 504, and 508 for applicable information. If nothing else this law should make us wonder why an administration would create obstacles or barriers to equitable healthcare, let alone evidence-based medicine, and education. Be curious.

It is a day to celebrate women and their social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. #AccelerateAction is a global call for gender equality and acknowledges the need to accelerate women’s equality. At LAS, we celebrate March 8 to ensure diverse talent, economic empowerment, and equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and pay. We shouldn’t need an annual reminder to celebrate women or to uplift and accelerate action for equality, but we do and participate fully!
