#LAS has had quite the week in Montréal at the The Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) & National Trust for Canada Joint Conference! Not only are we a Silver Sponsor, but we have a few of our talented #preservation architects presenting as well. This past Tuesday and Wednesday, Jack Pyburn lent his expertise on historic cast and precast concrete repair at the two-day workshop, "Conservation of Modern Cast-in-Place and Precast Concrete." An upcoming presentation, "Birmingham’s Prince Hall Grand Lodge: A Past in Civil Rights and a Future in Sustainability," will be given by two of our Senior Associates, Cristy Fletcher and Sarah Colvin Pitts. Starting tomorrow at 2:40 pm, Cristy and Sarah will introduce the audience to the rich history of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge building and illustrate the complexities of achieving progressive sustainability goals. Congratulations to the magnificent Copper House at the University of Kentucky for winning the AIA Kentucky Merit Award for Additions, Renovations and Restorations less than $5M! The Cooper House is a beautifully detailed 1880’s building carefully #restored to serve as a welcoming visitor center. The building received ‘just the right amount’ of renovation and reinterpretation. A restored historic stair is featured along with broad jambs and base boards. The notable expansion of a modern meeting and event space on the north side sets the stage for the other buildings in the composition. If you're attending the #SESAH Conference in Marietta, GA this week, don't miss out on an exciting session with David Steele, AIA, NCARB, CDT, one of our talented #HistoricPreservation architects. David will be presenting his paper titled "The History and Rehabilitation of the Gaston Motel." The #GastonMotel is significant both for the man who created it, A.G. Gaston, and for its association with the #civilrights movement, particularly the Birmingham Campaign. The SESAH paper will discuss a short history of the Motel and its rehabilitation. Make sure to mark your calendar for session 2B this Thursday, October 3rd, and join him for this enlightening discussion! More info on the conference: ?? #Architecture #Preservation #ThenandNow #LAS
