Wave 91 is here with some really fascinating insights about post-election and Holiday Season travel!

NEW RESEARCH ALERT!!! 21% of American travelers report they will travel more in the U.S. in the coming year, and 7% will travel more internationally, because of the results of the 2024 presidential election! Check out these insights and other updates on holiday travel, and economic concerns in this latest update from Longwoods International and Miles Partnership via the link below! https://lnkd.in/eFkB3PwA Some key highlights from this month's update: Key Findings:?“2024 Presidential Election Results Positive for Travel Planning” 1.??21% of American travelers?report they will travel more in the U.S. in the coming year, and 7% will travel more internationally, because of the results of the 2024 presidential election.??In contrast, only 8% said they will travel less domestically, and 3% will travel less internationally during the next 12 months. ? 2.?The presidential election outcome seems to have an even more positive impact for those travelers identifying as Republicans, with 29% saying they will travel more domestically in the coming year, vs. those identifying as Democrats, of which 18% say the same.?? ? 3.?Among travelers who are planning trips during the holiday season, 57% are planning to travel by car, and 28% plan to fly to their destinations.?? ? 4.?Despite traveler bullishness about the U.S. economy, concern among American travelers about inflation has been creeping up during 2024, with 31% now saying inflation will greatly impact their travel decisions in the next six months, up from 26% in January.? 5.?The good news is that only 6% of those saying inflation will greatly impact their travel plans are cancelling trips:??unchanged from January!???These travelers primarily indicated that they are reallocating their spending habits by cutting back on how much they spend on lodging, food, entertainment, etc. in order to make the trip happen.??This further reinforces that premise that in a post-pandemic world, Americans are prioritizing travel as a “need” versus a “want!”??This also means that Holiday Season travelers are placing an extra emphasis on seeking deals and are weighing in on perceptions of value! #travel

NEW RESEARCH ALERT: 16% of American travelers identifying themselves as Democrats report that they avoid certain destinations based on their political reputations, compared to 8% of those travelers who identified themselves as Republicans. These findings and a look at fall travel, concerns about air travel, the economy, and more are now available for free via the link below in highlights from Wave 89 of the American Travel Sentiment Tracking Study by Longwoods International in partnership with Miles Partnership! ?https://lnkd.in/ddvZ4TdS Some highlights from this month: 1. Sixteen percent of travelers identifying themselves as Democrats report that they avoid certain destinations based on their political reputations, compared to 8 percent of those travelers who identified themselves as Republicans.??(Slide 14) 2. Among those travelers who have changed their travel plans over the past year because of a location’s politics, 11% postponed their trip, 8% changed their itinerary to avoid a specific city or state, 7% shortened the length of their trip, and 5% cancelled their planned travel all together.??(Slide 15) 3. When we look at the same question between Democrat and Republican travelers, the percentages of those who changed their plans almost mirror each other, especially on the issue of trip cancellation… So, this begs the question as to whether the cancelling of travel plans is more of a threat than actual behavior???Will these travelers claiming to be influenced by politics/policies actually do what they say they will do???(Slides 16 & 17) 4. In looking at fall travel, we asked travelers about the activities they have planned on their upcoming trip:??Visiting friends and relatives (65%) and road trips (46%) are the top two planned activities, but the outdoors factor heavily in the rest of activities with visiting national/state parks (32%), viewing fall foliage (29%), and taking a hike or bicycle ride (27%) leading the list!??(Slide 23) 5. In taking another look at what factors may be keeping travelers from flying on their next trip, cost leads the way at 39%, but is a slight drop (-3 points) from earlier in the year likely due to the recent decline this month in air fares. (Slide 22) 6. Despite lingering economic concerns, demand for travel into the fall and early winter seasons remains near record post-pandemic levels with 91% of American travelers saying they have plans to go somewhere in the next six months!?(A slight decline of only 3 points since June’s peak of 94%).??As shown in prior waves of this survey, the travelers who are greatly concerned are simply reallocating their spend to ensure a trip happens within their budget vs. cancelling as their travels are now perceived as a “need” vs. a “want” in this post-pandemic era.? Recent improved economic news is likely a factor too!?(Slide 3) #travel
