Longwood Gardens is the legacy of Pierre S. du Pont, inspiring people through horticulture, education, and the arts.
关于我们
In 1906, industrialist Pierre du Pont (1870-1954) purchased a small farm near Kennett Square, PA, to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Throughout his life, Mr. du Pont indulged his passion for gardening, turning his farm into a magnificent horticultural showplace. Today, Longwood Gardens is one of the great gardens of the world, encompassing 1,077 acres of gardens, woodlands, meadows, fountains, a 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ and a 4-acre grand Conservatory. Longwood continues the mission set forth by Mr. du Pont to bring joy and inspiration to everyone through the beauty of nature, conservation, and learning. Longwood Gardens offers a breadth of mission programming that includes exhibitions, musical performances by top artists, renowned horticulture education programs, horticulture research, environmental stewardship and cultural and community engagement.

Magical Moment #12, celebrating the 17 acres of new garden beauty transformed by Longwood Reimagined, is our brand new 1906 Restaurant and Bar & Lounge overlooking our Main Fountain Garden. From plush seating to imaginative menus that celebrate fresh, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients—many of which grown just steps away—1906 is truly exceptional. One of the keys to 1906 is the strong partnership between our chefs and Ornamental Kitchen Garden horticulturists … and the resulting (and delicious!) connection between garden and plate. Read more about this garden-to-table excellence on our blog, at https://lnkd.in/gxVZmRtJ. You can explore all of our new beautiful Garden spaces before the public opening, with our Member previews through November 17. As we continue to showcase the new experiences found in our 17 acres of reimagined garden beauty, we are excited to share Magical Moment #11: our Waterlily Court. A summertime favorite, the Waterlily Court first opened in 1957 and was redesigned in 1989 by celebrated landscape architect Sir Peter Shepheard (whose birthday happens to be today!). With Longwood Reimagined, we are renewing the space to serve as a central room that bridges our conservatories. A new covered walkway, called the Arcade, stretches along the south and west sides of the Court, featuring seasonal plant interest and new guest amenities. Our six glorious pools will reopen this spring and once again showcase our amazing collection of aquatic plants from around the world. We invite you to explore Longwood Reimagined before the public opening with our Member previews. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/ggXDmFfZ Longwood Reimagined opens to the public on November 22. Today, we present Magical Moment #10 in our countdown to celebrate the 17 acres of transformed beauty in Longwood Reimagined with the impressive fa?ade of our Conservatory complex, which is at the very heart of the Gardens. Longwood founder Pierre S. du Pont deliberately situated his crystal palace, the Historic Main Conservatory, on a ridgeline at the highest point on the Longwood property. Longwood Reimagined builds on this vision, linking Peirce’s Park and its majestic trees at the east end with a new allée of trees on the west end, unifying the journey across the Gardens. You can have exclusive access to take in this beautiful vista and more, before the public opening with our Member previews, now through November 17. “The garden is, it must be, an integral part of civilized life: a deeply felt, deeply rooted, spiritual, and emotional necessity.” ~Roberto Burle Marx On this sunny Saturday we present Magical Moment #9 in our countdown to celebrate the 17 acres of transformed beauty in Longwood Reimagined with our beautifully restored and preserved Cascade Garden. The only garden in North America by world-renowned Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx (1909–1994), our Cascade Garden immerses you in the misty embrace of the Brazilian rainforest. Designed in 1992, our Cascade Garden has been lovingly restored and moved to its new location in an unprecedented act of preservation. Horticulturist Kaylene Argot, who oversees the Cascade Garden, takes us on a tour of this historic space and shows us some of her favorite moments. You can have exclusive access to take in this beautiful vista and more, before the public opening, with our Member previews through November 17.
