Pleased that one of our agrivoltaic initiatives was highlighted in our investor Infratil’s recent 2024 Sustainability Report.?Sustainable is one of Longroad’s core values and we prioritize safeguarding ecosystems and addressing environmental concerns though various efforts, including a commitment to biodiversity, land conservation, supporting native species and pollinators, and conducting environmental research.?? ? The Hawai'i Agrivoltaic Research and Development project, a program run by the Hawai'i Agriculture Research Center (HARC), is evaluating what types of crops can grow successfully under or between solar panels. The project's goals are to maximize land use, enhance local food security, guide local farmers, inform policy decisions, and ultimately help Hawai'i advance its twin goals of sustainable agriculture and renewable energy.?Longroad is a founding sponsor of the project. ? The findings to date point to a range of benefits offered by the panel shading, including a lowering of the soil and air temperatures, reduction in water evaporation, and, importantly, a sun shield for those harvesting the crops.? ? At Longroad, prioritizing the safety of our team members is integral to our core SHINE values and company culture. As part of our commitment to safety in the field, our teams regularly participate in scenario-based training exercises. In the photo below our team is conducting a rescue?training demonstration?led by our VP of EHS, Ryan Fonbuena,?where a Longroader simulates a “fall” between a wind turbine’s generator and nacelle. The team collaborated closely with ground support,?skillfully navigating obstacles to?practice?extracting?our team member?and using emergency descent systems.?Employees also conducted emergency evacuation practice from the nacelle to the ground.?? ? While we are vigilant in ensuring safety incidents rarely occur, these exercises make sure our teams are prepared, highly trained, and ready to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. A job well done to Jon King, Derek Miller, Eric Robinson, Robert Marazzi, Devin Hall and Paul Pottle. ? Longroad is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all backgrounds and perspectives are recognized and valued. During Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month we’ve taken time to celebrate the vibrant Lantinx culture and rich history, and to appreciate the many contributions that enhance Longroad and our country at large. A number of team members came together for?an interactive “Clear the Board” event from HELM Life. They learned more about different Latin American?countries, unique cultural practices and delicious foods, and also discussed the ways in which many Longroaders are connected to Hispanic and Latin American heritage. Longroad's newest employee resource group SHADES recently welcomed Dietrix Jon Ulukoa Duhaylonsod to share his perspective on respecting land from an Indigenous point of view. He focused on the Hawaiian relationship with land and emphasized the importance of consulting with the community early and throughout the stages of development projects. Dietrix was born and raised in Honokaihale on the island of O'ahu, his mother rooted in Mākaha and Kalihi, and his father rooted in Kaloaloa and Kahuku. He received his Double Bachelor's in Anthropology and Ethnic Studies and his Master's in Pacific Islands Studies, all from UH Mānoa, and he is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Anthropology. SHADES was formed this spring and focuses on Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) voices at Longroad. SHADES aims to create a safe space for BIPOC employees to grow as professionals and to keep the perspectives of the BIPOC community clearly in view as we navigate the long road to a greener future. #DEI #diversity #equity #inclusion #BIPOCvoices #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #solarenergy #windpower #windenergy #ERG
