  • Are you looking for tools and strategies to better support a loved one struggling with substance use? Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to learn from one of the nation’s leading experts in family therapy and substance solutions! We are excited to welcome Ken Carpenter, PhD, Director of Training for the CMC: Foundation for Change, as our keynote speaker. Dr. Carpenter is a licensed clinical psychologist and research scientist with more than 25 years of experience in developing and implementing evidence-based strategies to help individuals make meaningful lifestyle changes. He earned his degree from Hofstra University and completed advanced training at Columbia University. Dr. Carpenter is renowned for his work with the Invitation to Change? (ITC) approach, an innovative method that integrates elements of Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This unique framework equips families with practical, compassionate tools to stay engaged and empowered while supporting their loved ones. At this workshop, we will be looking closely at 2 or 3 of the Action Tools that are part of the Invitation to Change model and learning how to use those tools to bring about change in you and your family members. Workshop Details: Huntsville/Madison, AL: Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Longleaf Recovery, 450 Dunlop Blvd SW, Madison, AL 35758 Birmingham, AL: Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 1 - 5 p.m. at Birmingham Recovery Center, 2501 International Park Dr, Birmingham, AL 35243 Both workshops will feature the same valuable content, giving you the flexibility to choose the date and location that works best for you. Snacks and water will be available at both workshops courtesy of the workshop hosts. This is a rare chance to learn directly from Dr. Carpenter and gain insights that can transform your approach to helping a loved one. Space is limited, so register today to secure your spot at this transformative workshop. The workshop is being offered by Not One More Alabama and the Addiction Prevention Coalition. A big thank you goes out to Longleaf Recovery and Birmingham Recovery Center for providing space for this workshop. This workshop is designed for family members, but mental health and substance use professionals will also find the content highly valuable. We're thrilled to share that a number of our dedicated therapists at Longleaf Recovery & Wellness have participated in the Alabama Fire College Clinical Peer Support program training. This specialized training is designed to empower clinicians with the tools to support the mental health needs of our brave firefighters. Through this program, our therapists have learned to: ? Understand common behavioral health challenges in the fire service and barriers to help. ? Identify foundational principles for treating fire service members. ? Foster a successful therapeutic alliance with fire service clients. ? Implement best practices for positive treatment outcomes. ? Build effective connections with local fire departments and unions. ? Gain direct exposure to the physical and psychological stress of fire and rescue operations through live fireground training.
