We emphasize a constructivist methodology where learning is personalized and problem-solving is active, ensuring learners not only understand scientific principles but also know how to meaningfully apply them. We strive to extend the reach of quality STEM education into underserved communities, providing equitable access to resources that foster lifelong learning and discovery. Our commitment to environmental advocacy promotes sustainable practices and helps preserve Long Island’s biodiversity, involving the community in these efforts. At the Explorium, we break down barriers in STEM by empowering underrepresented groups, especially women and girls in science and technology, fostering a more inclusive community. Our platform also serves as a nexus for professionals, educators, and organizations eager to advance societal development through education. Our educational philosophy equips students with critical skills for the future workforce, preparing them to be adaptable and innovative. Join us as we innovate, educate, and inspire. Reflections from the Executive Director:? From Curiosity to Innovation: Reflections on 20 Years of STEM enrichment at the Long Island Explorium As we approach the Long Island Explorium’s 20th anniversary, I am proud to reflect on how our commitment to innovative, inclusive learning continues to make a meaningful impact on students and families. For two decades, we’ve fostered an environment where children are encouraged to explore, build, and grow through hands-on experiences that transform learning into something active and personal. Today, our approach aligns powerfully with New York State’s educational shifts toward more holistic, culturally responsive, and skill-focused frameworks. New York State’s NY Inspires Plan emphasizes student-centered learning and equitable opportunities for all—a vision that resonates deeply with our work at the Explorium. Our constructivist learning model, grounded in the theories of Piaget, Dewey, and Papert, has always focused on empowering students to develop skills beyond content knowledge. We provide students with experiences that sharpen critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork—key abilities identified in the state’s plan as essential for college, career, and life readiness. In addition, New York’s Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) Education Framework reinforces the importance of affirming students' diverse identities and perspectives. At the Explorium, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive space where every student feels valued and encouraged to learn through their own unique lens. By integrating culturally responsive practices, we ensure that our programs speak to the diverse backgrounds of our community, enriching the learning experience for all. Our programs are also purposefully designed to support the future workforce. By emphasizing skills that align with the needs of a rapidly evolving world, we help students build a foundation for long-term success in STEM fields. This approach mirrors New York’s focus on preparing students for the future economy with adaptable, interdisciplinary skill sets. As the Explorium’s Executive Director, my journey has been shaped by a passion for community and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for children’s growth. This commitment guides every program we develop and every partnership we form, ensuring that we remain a relevant and valuable resource for students, families, and educators across Long Island. Looking ahead, I invite you to join us as partners, supporters, and advocates for a future where all students can thrive, explore, and build the skills they need for the workforce of tomorrow. Together, we are preparing today’s youth to be confident, critical thinkers, ready to lead and innovate in a diverse and complex world. Angeline Judex (Yeo) Executive Director, Long Island Explorium
