Another 82 units of housing for seniors and formerly-homeless veterans are underway at 300 Alamitos! We’ve broken ground on hundreds of units of affordable housing for our community this year alone, cut the ribbon on almost a half-dozen more buildings, and we’re not slowing down. Thanks to Mercy Housing, LB Community Development, the California Department of Housing & Community Development, Supervisor Janice Hahn, and the many other partners working to make this project possible. Let’s keep building and make sure everyone has a quality, stable place to live.

#ICYMI: This weekend, we celebrated the grand reopening of two important legacy businesses that have served the Cambodia Town community for decades: Spectrum Pharmacy and Long Beach Primary Care Associates. After a four-alarm fire two years ago, these businesses had to adapt to keep seeing patients and making sure prescriptions were delivered. Yet, like a phoenix from the ashes, they rose again and are now welcoming the community back through their doors. Our small businesses are the cornerstones of our community, and it’s important that they know Long Beach has their back. Thank you our City team for stepping up to support these businesses.

This weekend, we brought together community members, local businesses, organizations, and City partners to look back at year one of the Westside Promise and share their vision for the way forward. The Westside Promise is not just a pledge for a better tomorrow—it’s the blueprint for a decade of growth and prosperity for West Long Beach residents and families of all ages. The new and improved Davenport Park—now more than double its previous size—is officially open to the community! With a new soccer field, fitness areas, seating and added parking, Davenport Park not only has an improved visitor experience, it's got more opportunities for engagement and recreation for the health and wellbeing of our community. Congratulations Councilmember Austin, Long Beach Public Works, Long Beach Parks, Recreation, and Marine, and the many folks who worked on this park expansion. I was proud to join the Long Beach Fire Department's Meritorious Awards Ceremony this morning to honor and celebrate the hard work our firefighters put in every day to keep our community safe. Congratulations to Brian Fisk, Firefighter of the Year, and Ryan Spalding, Lifeguard of the Year, on earning this important recognition, and thank you for your service to our community!
