关于我们
The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is a partnership of the U.S. EPA, the states of Connecticut and New York, interstate commissions, municipalities, academic institutions, environmental groups, industry, and citizens. These people are working together to protect and improve the health of the Sound. "The vision for the Sound is of waters that are clean, clear, safe to swim in, and charged with life. It is a vision of waters nourished and protected by extensive coastal wetlands, by publicly accessible, litter-free beaches and preserves, and of undeveloped islands. It is a vision of abundant and diverse wildlife, of flourishing commercial fisheries, of harbors accessible to the boating community, and of a regional consciousness and a way of life that protects and sustains the ecosystem." - Vision statement from the 2015 Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP)

This week, the annual National Estuary Program (NEP) Tech Transfer took place at Stony Brook University, hosted by the Peconic Estuary Partnership, the NY/NJ Harbor & Estuary Program, and the Long Island Sound Study. Over three days, staff from 26 of the 28 NEPs across the country came together to share insights on water quality monitoring and improvements, habitat protection and restoration, living resources management, and how to engage communities in our work. The event concluded with field trips organized by each host NEP to project locations, offering a closer look at the unique and site-specific challenges faced by each program. This annual gathering is a key opportunity for estuary programs nationwide to exchange knowledge and build connections. It was another great Tech Transfer in the books and we look forward to continued collaboration with other NEPs! #KnowledgeSharing #Restoration #Water Hudson River Foundation

With funding from LISS and support from New York Sea Grant Sustainable and Resilient Communities Extension Professionals, Pace University's Land Use Law Center recently brought its award-winning Land Use Leadership Alliance Training Program to Suffolk and Nassau municipalities within the Long Island Sound watershed. The training program consisted of three full-day workshops held in Hauppauge, NY that focused on the land use system, innovative approaches to sea level rise adaptation, hazard mitigation, and natural resource protection to strengthen community planning, regulation, and informed decision-making. Twenty-eight municipal staff and community leaders, representing eighteen different Long Island Sound communities, completed the Program. Program graduates gained new networks of support, identified successful land use techniques, and developed implementation plans that will enable a more resilient future for their community and the Long Island Sound region.
