I'm often asked whether human communication is an art or a science. One way to describe what conversation analysts like me do in our research is that we identify and describe systematically (aka 'the science') what constitutes effective practice (aka 'the art'). It was such a pleasure to present at today's #GSTXIX (sharing the stage with David Beare Luke Skinner Birgitte Pingel David Mines Dr. Ryan O'Sullivan) which had as its theme 'The Art and Science of Sales Language.' I talked about my research on #sales, #mediation, and #crisis #negotiation, including the surprising interactional practices they share. I also gave examples of how, through collaborating with salespeople, mediators, negotiators - and academics Rein Ove Sikveland & Bogdana Huma - the research insights have impacted and benefitted some of the organizations I've worked with over the years. And it was a treat to visit, for the first time, 'the other LSE' - since Consalia's Global Sales Transformation was hosted, for the 17th year, at the London Stock Exchange :-) Many thanks for inviting me, Philip Squire Eddie Guevarra! ?? Improving the management of hospital waiting lists by using nudges in letters: A randomised controlled trial ?? In a new study, Liam Delaney?and co-authors?redesigned hospital validation letters to include nudges, aiming to increase response rates from patients on waiting lists. Last week was truly special!? I received my dissertation grades and am thrilled to share that I’ve officially completed my Master’s in Organisational and Social Psychology from the LSE Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). On top of that, I was honoured to be selected to speak at the Graduate Symposium organised by the The Association for Business Psychology. Alongside four brilliant researchers, I had the opportunity to present my dissertation findings to an engaged audience of academics and professionals. My research explored the effects of technostress on hybrid workers in India, focusing on its impact on health and organisational effectiveness. Using a qualitative approach, I uncovered key insights into how technostress affects sleep, attention, and work-life boundaries. I also proposed a sociotechnical systems framework, which highlights the importance of balancing leadership strategies and technology enhancements to create healthier, more productive work environments. A big thank you to Barry Rogers for guiding me throughout my research process and to Dr Dawn H. N. for selecting me for this prestigious symposium and giving me the opportunity to present! We’re hiring! Research assistant wanted to work with the crime group at CEP. The role involves developing machine learning models to forecast police demand and using satellite data to assess firm activity. You will need to have an undergraduate degree in economics or another quantitative discipline. The post will commence as soon as possible, to work over the next 6 to 12 months. The total workload would ideally be 15-20 hours per week with flexibility depending on the stage of the projects.
