THE IRON TRIANGLE - HOW TO DECIDE WHAT KIND OF PRODUCTION IS RIGHT FOR YOUR PRODUCT (THE 3 KEYS TO SUCCESSFULLY PLAN MANUFACTURING) You’re passionate about your product. You’ve spent months - or even years - perfecting it in a way that you just know will strike a chord with thousands, or even millions of potential customers! When it finally gets manufactured though, what if that magic gets lost in translation? Lots of back-and-forth and effective communication with the factory or supplier can help ensure they understand the specifics and quality your company is looking for so that it meets the goals of the product and the impact in can have on consumers. They may know exactly what you need. And then the GO button gets pressed to make it a reality! There is still a possibility the ground may have shifted underneath your project, making the final deliverable not exactly what you had hoped for. Here are the 3 interconnected factors that may have contributed - and most importantly, how you can plan during development to take advantage of them. TIME Simply put, the more time you have to research, design, and test your product, the better it will turn out. International development teams are in different time zones, have different work and holiday schedules, and staffing & load constraints. Multiple projects can be happening simultaneously on a production floor, and can sometimes require advanced scheduling. Then add shipping time to that - not only the time sailing across oceans or being driven across continents, but the necessary paperwork and requirements brought on by Customs clearance, Bills of Lading, taxes, duties, tariffs, etc. These take real time and should be factored in as well. Development aside (which could take well over a year for most products), you can expect production and shipping to take 90-100 days for international manufacturing. QUALITY Of course everyone wants their product to be the very best when it comes to quality. In order to use the best materials, extra cost can be expected. Additionally, employing quality control not only increases cost further, but takes additional time. The more you’re willing to spend, the less time it will take. COST Money. It always comes down to money, doesn’t it? In order to save money, though, you’ve got to be willing to forego either speed or quality (or both, but who wants that?). If you have the budget to spend, you can either get your product made much faster, or of a much higher quality. That pretty much sums it up! If it’s fast and good, it won’t be cheap. If it’s cheap and fast, it won’t be good. If it’s cheap and good, it won’t be fast. Now all you have to decide on is - which corner of the triangle will you pick? International unrest in the Red Sea has been causing major delays in shipping trade and oil prices. With more than $5.5 trillion in commercial trade from the top two exporters (China and the United States respectively), it is no wonder that China is helping to do everything they can to de-escalate tensions. Thank you to those good people who are earnestly trying to navigate such dangerous routes and doing everything they can to keep logistics safe and effective! May we all be patient as many parties are working tirelessly to restore security and stability in the region ?? #shipping #logistics #redsea #redseaglobal #yemen #houthi #globaleconomy #globaltrade #trade #transportation #shippingworldwide #export
