Newham Trading Standards Triumphs at London Trading Standards Awards 2024! Newham Trading Standards proudly received the Intelligence-Led Team of the Year Award 2024 at the London Trading Standards Awards. This award celebrates their innovative use of data and intelligence to tackle challenges and achieve great results. Special thanks to officers George McDougal, Vincent Searle, Khalid Pervaiz and Raheeda Amin. Adding to this success, Newham contributed to the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion category, winning the Equality and Diversity Award 2024. This recognises efforts to promote Trading Standards as a diverse and inclusive career. Colleagues from the team supported initiatives like the REACH Society Careers Conference, inspiring the next generation of professionals. These Awards highlight the collaborative efforts of Newham’s Trading Standards team, working with Licensing, Public Health and Community Safety to deliver meaningful outcomes for the community. During lockdown, she built bridges with her neighbours, providing vital support. Since then, her efforts have flourished. From organizing unforgettable events like the Queen’s Jubilee Street Party and the King’s Coronation Party to launching the E6 Sisters Community Pantry, Funmy has truly transformed lives. Through support from Newham Council's People Powered Places, Funmy turned her vision into reality. The Pantry offers residents affordable access to food, clothing, and a welcoming space to connect, with local businesses stepping in to help families in need. ?? As Funmy reflects: "It’s like giving confidence back to the community." ?? Exciting news! We’re thrilled to kick off our Data Ambassador Programme at the incredible Plexal in East Bank. Over the next five weeks, 90 brilliant computer science students from Newham will dive into a career-focused (and fun!) journey. The programme includes: ?? Sessions on data ethics ???? Interview skills workshops ?? Exploring career opportunities ?? An office visit ?? And today – an inspiring group session on how to build an app! This add to the 1,000 people that have already received data training in the borough! A huge thank you to our amazing partners - Open Data Institute, Microsoft and Barclays, plus the incredible data ambassadors and teachers from Plashet School, London Design and Engineering UTC and Stratford School Academy.
