Yesterday,?#NBC5 #NBCChicago?ran a report "comparing" the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 to the Palisades Fire?in California in 2024. I find this to be an unethical use of the journalistic voice and I call on them to apologize for allowing the report, sanction the editor and "journalist", remove the report, and develop policy to prevent reckless "comparison" that harms entire communities. Additionally, I call on the?#SocietyofProfessionalJournalists?to update their Code of Ethics to account for and accommodate the expansion of false information in the social media world. #emergencymanagement #FEMA #IAEM See less

Did you notice that I posted last week that I am presenting at the International Association of Emergency Managers Conference in November in Colorado Springs? Well, I think you should know that instructors for the IAEM Conference "cut their teeth" at multiple local venues on their way to larger "stages". I have presented this information since I received a request by the Hanover Park Twp Director to present at their annual training in 2022. This year, I will be back at HTES in November before presenting at IAEM. I am diving deeper into one of the concepts that I have presented before for their local EM personnel. I have also developed and submitted an article on the concept for the IAEM Conference Newsletter. Look for that to be published in October! And I am pleased to be finalizing my presentation at the #WisconsinEmergencyManagementAssociation Conference this week where I have been asked to present TWICE on the topic of Self And Team Care on Wednesday. This is the same presentation geared to my midwestern neighbors just to the north! We MUST start doing more to prepare.
