I had the honor of meeting Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Alfred (Al) Lipphardt last week at Military Influencer conference. Al is a member of the VFW and is also a member of Rotary Club - two things we have in common. Al presented me with what is now a prized possession along with my wedding ring and my grandmother's wedding ring. Al is a distinguished veteran of the Vietnam war with an impressive service record. It was an honor to be presented with the VFW pin by the VFW's National Commander, a commander who served in conditions unlike the ones I encountered downrange. I had steak and lobster night. I had A/C. The GWOT that some of us saw was different than many of our comrades' experience. Granted, every job is necessary to accomplish the mission, it's not lost on me that I served as combat support. I am forever grateful for those that serve in direct combat roles. I am immensely proud to have supported them in a combat service role, to have worked beside them and to walk beside them now. I am honored to be a part of an organization that recognizes what it means to serve in a foreign war. I joined the VFW as soon as we arrived "home," into Germany. Back then it was $200 for a lifetime membership which bought me a lifetime of camaraderie- and that is priceless. Military Influencer conference is a game changer. Some highlights! With pics! Huge shoutout to Curtez Riggs and the amazing team that kept us all resourced, entertained, inspired and motivated. Ashley Gutermuth is one of the greatest milfam advocates ever. We love her, she’s hilarious and she is an awesome human with a huge heart for service. Got an interview with Johnny Vargas coming out next week. We will post on our socials in the next few days. Ruben Ayala is making things happen and carving a path for previously muted voices. If you’re haven’t seen BLK OPS on Amazon- do that now! If you’re not already following Thom Tran, go! Do it! Dude is legit and you’ll laugh hard. Like, have an accident hard. We had so much fun at MIC. Paden Sickles, MBA, PMP, CSD is the boss! Get you some SickFit socks ASAP! She’s changing the world around her and creating so much opportunity for women, veteran entrepreneurs and non-profits. I’ll slowly convert my home into a SickFit sock home.

Caring is costly. But only up front. I brought 120lbs of conference giveaways for Military Influencer Conference. You see, I just CAN’T give away plastic bits and bobs that end up in the ocean. So, I am traveling with steel bottle openers and multi-tools. Did you know the absolute bag weight limit on AA is 98lbs? I didn’t. So I had to pay the WAY overweight fee and carry 24lbs of bottle openers through the airport. It’s hilarious and my arms are getting a workout. Sooo many questions about my stainless steel brick have given me the opportunity to meet some nice people this morning and give away a few ounces at a time to smiling faces. But, maybe one turtle will live to see another day because I chose to do the hard thing, the costlier thing. That’s worth it to me. On PCSing: Every time we move, some items just do not make the cut. This repurposed window-to-chalkboard however, has decorated our entryway for years. Recently, I asked our children if I could erase it and change it up. They both shrieked, “absolutely not!” Unbeknownst to me, this decoration, an item I purchased from a friend, means a lot to them. They recited the phrase in unison. I was moved. I didn’t erase it. I simply re-wrote over it. It’s a chalkboard that will forever bear the same phrase. It is permanent now. This chalkboard is home to our children. For moving military families living an existence devoid of deep roots, the myriad homes we establish are sanctuary to our family. The items in these homes are more than meets the eye. This is what LOGSA Mil Moves knows and it’s why we are the empathetic mover. At LOGSA Mil Moves, our methods, our absolute demand of quality service for military families and our commitment to what we’re building is what makes this whole project work. We set out to create opportunity whilst increasing quality capacity. That’s no small task and it’s a slow burn. The thing is, I personally didn’t set out to create for myself. I set out to collaborate with stakeholders and create connection, one move at a time. My heart beats to invest in my family and in people. I love service with a smile and I love to empower. Life is too short to live any other way. Our approach to household goods moving is often criticized for the assumed, inherent aversion to risk. We call it mitigation. Our team has created a system that is methodical and rewards excellence. We are okay with a slow burn if it means delighting our customers. Our partners understand what we’re building and they are on board. I won’t own a private jet any time soon and probably never. My desires lie elsewhere and my timeline is slower. I am so proud of the way we lean and I appreciate the people that lean with us.
