What's the right size for your Kubernetes clusters? It's not as straightforward as you'd expect. You've basically got two options: one massive cluster or several smaller ones. Both choices come with their own ups and downs, and whichever path you pick will shape your org's future. Bet on the big cluster approach. Curious about how vCluster could level up your Kubernetes game? Drop a comment - I'd love to chat about it!

Teaching containers and Kubernetes at Learnk8s ?

?? Scaling Kubernetes multi-tenancy: the resource, networking, and security challenges. In just a few hours, Chris will break down how companies like Gitpod tackled resource allocation that adjusts on demand, prevented DNS and networking bottlenecks, and implemented proper workload isolation for security. Learn practical solutions for your multi-tenant environments without breaking the bank. This is part 5 of 6 of our month-long free educational series on Kubernetes multi-tenancy with LoftLabs. Today at 8:00 AM PT / 4:00 PM CET Chris Nesbitt-Smith from Learnk8s will be delivering a practical session on, "Balancing Isolation and Complexity in a Kubernetes Platform". In this session you'll learn: ? Evaluating the spectrum of isolation options in Kubernetes ? Identifying the challenges of sharing global resources like Persistent Volumes (PVs) and Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) in multi-tenant environments ? Implementing graduated levels of isolation based on tenant requirements ? Strategies for managing the complexity of highly isolated environments You can join the live stream here: https://lnkd.in/dYgifUsn #Kubernetes #vCluster #MultiTenancy #PlatformEngineering #CloudNative

    Virtualizing Kubernetes and the cloud-native stack | CEO & Co-Founder @ LoftLabs

A few days ago I was on a call with a company that was interested in using vCluster and it instantly reminded me of this educational series from Learnk8s about the cost benefits of Kubernetes multi-tenancy. The company I spoke to is operating 400+ EKS clusters, many of which are used for pre-production use cases and most of them are highly underutilized. They are planning to embark on the multi-tenancy journey and wanted to talk to us because they’ve heard about the success others had with vCluster. The key benefit for them in choosing virtual clusters over basic namespace-based multi-tenancy: migrating applications from a cluster to a virtual one is pretty seamless whereas re-architecting all of their workloads to force them to run in a simple namespace within a shared cluster requires a major effort. And since they grew a lot through acquisitions, harmonizing all applications across the board to operate exactly the same way would be an even greater challenge and would probably slow them down considerably. Multi-tenancy is what many K8s operators are looking for these days and looking at these slides from Learnk8s clearly shows why it’s a worthwhile endeavor: massive potential for cost savings and freed up compute capacity. PS: We are running "Multi-tenancy March", a month long workshop series on Kubernetes multi-tenancy. Register here:?https://lnkd.in/g5D8yUtZ

vCluster v0.24 is now available bringing new capabilities and updates.?Of particular interest is the new Snapshot and Restore capability, plus advancements in Sleep Mode. ???????????????? ?????? ??????????????: You can now back up your virtual clusters directly via a CLI. This grabs etcd data, Helm releases, and your vcluster.yaml. Think of it as a quick way to roll back changes, migrate clusters, or share configurations with others. There are two demo videos within the blog showing how it works. ?????????? ????????: Has moved out of experimental. You can now more precisely control what wakes your sleeping clusters using annotations, so tools like Argo CD or K9s do not trigger unnecessary wake-ups. More details are available within the changelog which is also linked from my blog.?#vCluster #Kubernetes #DevOps

In this workshop, you'll learn how to integrate CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, trigger ephemeral environments upon PR creation, deploy an application, and leverage vCluster for efficient testing. By the end of the session, you will gain practical knowledge to implement the same approach in your enterprise environments, enhancing development agility and scalability. In modern software development, ephemeral environments play a crucial role in accelerating testing and deployment workflows. This workshop will demonstrate how to create and utilize ephemeral pull request (PR) environments using vCluster, enabling efficient application testing within isolated virtual clusters. Participants will learn how to integrate CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, trigger ephemeral environments upon PR creation, deploy applications seamlessly, and leverage vCluster for efficient testing. By the end of the session, attendees will gain practical knowledge to implement the same approach in their enterprise environments, enhancing development agility and scalability. We can't wait for you to join this workshop!
