This session addresses maintaining consistency and standardization across numerous development environments in multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters. You'll explore strategies for isolating and sharing resources efficiently and implementing effective cost allocation. What You Will Learn: - Techniques for sharing cluster-wide resources (e.g., ingress controllers, monitoring systems) - Implementing chargeback and showback models for multi-tenant clusters - Optimizing resource allocation and utilisation across tenants - Strategies for reducing operational overhead in multi-tenant environments - Tools and practices for cost visibility and optimization We can't wait to see you there!

Dev environments in Kubernetes clusters often consume more resources than production, especially in multi-tenant setups. In a few hours, Salman will explain why and explore your options to keep costs and complexity at bay. This is part 3 of 6 of the month-long free educational series on Kubernetes multi-tenancy. Find all the info here! https://lnkd.in/gPCcdjai

Only 3 weeks until KubeCon + CloudNativeCon London 2025 and we have some exciting things planned! First of all, our very own Saiyam Pathak with Paco Xu from DaoCloud will deliver a talk ?? A Huge Cluster or Multi-Clusters? Identifying the Bottleneck ?? Thursday, April 3, 2025 ? 15:00 BST ?? Level 1 | Hall Entrance S10 | Room A ?? https://lnkd.in/djjxzu7k In this talk they they will examine: - The challenges of large clusters (5,000+ nodes and beyond) and the trade-offs of multicluster solutions. - API server options, etcd tuning and alternatives (e.g., Kubebrain, kine), and operational concerns such as multi-tenancy models (#vCluster, kubezoo, HNC), and operator version control. - Multicluster management solutions like #Karmada, Clusternet, and networking challenges with tools like Submariner are explored. Actionable insights are guaranteed! #KubeCon #CloudNativeCon #Kubernetes #MultiTenancy #MultiCluster #CloudNative

Standardizing Dev Environments in Large-Scale, Multi-Tenant Kubernetes Clusters with Salman Iqbal coming up this Thursday, March 13 at 8:00 AM PT Register here: https://lnkd.in/d5etkQy4 #Kubernetes #MultiTenancy #DevEnvironments #PlatformEngineering #CloudNative #DevOps
?? Do you know that dev environments can end up using more resources than production if left unchecked? In large-scale, multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters, this is a reality that organizations face when offering a shared platform to multiple teams. Consider the following: three teams, each with one microservice, deploy across dev, test, staging, and production, leading to 12 deployments—nine running in lower environments, driving up costs significantly. To manage this imbalance, focus on three key axes: cost, complexity, and governance. ?? Cost: Share cluster-wide resources (ingress controllers, monitoring systems) and consolidate worker nodes to optimize bin packing. Leverage economies of scale by developing tools or operators that benefit the entire cluster rather than duplicating efforts for each tenant. ?? Complexity: Streamline onboarding, maintenance, and upgrades so teams can focus on core responsibilities instead of wrestling with the intricacies of Kubernetes operations. ????♂? Governance: Establish robust guardrails with tools (Popeye, KubeLinter, KubeConform for static analysis; Kyberno, OPA for runtime checks) and best practices (like consistent labelling) to ensure teams stay on track. ? When slicing the platform into tenants, staying as close as possible to namespace-based abstractions is ideal for maintaining low cost, low complexity, and robust governance. If stricter isolation is needed, nested clusters offer an effective alternative. This post is based on Salman Iqbal's upcoming talk on "Standardising Dev Environments in Large-Scale, Multi-Tenant Kubernetes Clusters". What's the right size for your Kubernetes clusters? It's not as straightforward as you'd expect. You've basically got two options: one massive cluster or several smaller ones. Both choices come with their own ups and downs, and whichever path you pick will shape your org's future. Bet on the big cluster approach. Curious about how vCluster could level up your Kubernetes game? Drop a comment - I'd love to chat about it!

We are live with "Seamless Kubernetes Multi-Tenancy with vCluster and a Shared Platform Stack" with Saiyam Pathak. #Kubernetes #MultiTenancy #CloudNative #DevOps
Multi-tenancy in Kubernetes can be challenging, but vCluster simplifies environment isolation while allowing shared platform components. In this hands-on workshop, we will start with an introduction to vCluster, followed by a step-by-step demonstration of creating a virtual cluster. Participants will then explore a real-world use case, deploying an application inside vCluster while leveraging the host cluster’s Cert-Manager and Ingress Controller. This approach ensures efficient resource utilization while maintaining isolation for tenants. By the end of the session, attendees will have a clear understanding of how to implement vCluster in enterprise environments to optimize multi-tenancy and platform sharing. We can't wait for you to join us for this workshop!
