In the past six years, the federal government has spent over $204 million subsidizing imported wine mostly to the benefit of a few of California’s largest wineries. Annually, gallons of imported bulk wine pour into California, flooding the market and driving down the demand for California-grown wines and grapes. Recently, AgAlert asked Stuart Spencer, Executive Director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission, to speak candidly on the current state of the wine and grape industry. Published November 12, Stuart’s commentary focuses on Duty Drawback – arguably one of the more substantive causes of market downturn. Visit https://lnkd.in/gN3NP5Gc to read this eye-opening article.

An important listen! California is home to some of the world's most renowned wine regions, making it a top global wine producer. However, the state’s wine industry is facing a significant slowdown in sales. Wineries are filled with unsold inventory and grape growers are struggling to find buyers for their grapes, even at steep discounts. Lodi’s Craig Ledbetter (Vino Farms) and Stuart Spencer (Lodi Winegrape Commission) plus winemaker Patrick Cappiello (Monte Rio Cellars) discuss what’s behind this slowdown and how it’s impacting everyone from farmers to winemakers.

What is American wine? Wine labels can be aesthetically intriguing, sometimes fun and usually full of information. But do you really know what everything on that label means? Here's a great article by Stuart Spencer at Lodi Winegrape Commission about the "Dirty Little Secret" of what some of that information can tell you about where your wine is actually coming from. https://lnkd.in/e7GgJezB
