“I’m not sure what would have happened to my patient if LISC’s program didn’t exist,” says Dr. Michael Kozak, a family medicine physician with HealthLinc Community Health Center in South Bend, Indiana. Dr. Kozak is referring to LISC’s Health Access Fund, which provides free access to non-emergency medical transportation through a partnership with Uber. The program serves people who lack access to reliable transportation, helping them get to and?from the destinations that contribute to their health and wellbeing. To date, 23 organizations – including Dr. Kozak’s – have booked close to 320,000 Uber rides for people in 88 counties across 23 states. Most opportunities in today’s job market require #DigitalAccess. Thanks to support from AT&T through LISC, Atlanta’s STRIVE opened its new AT&T Digital Lab to boost career development programming offered to community members like Jasmine Harris. Harris dreamed of earning her real estate license but did not have a computer of her own to complete the online coursework necessary to prepare for the exam. That’s where STRIVE and its Digital Lab came into play. For two months, Harris studied hard in the Digital Lab, visiting more than 25 times. She also accessed a loaner laptop through STRIVE so she could study from home. On the day of the test, STRIVE staff helped to proctor her exam, which she passed with flying colors. “Not long ago, I battled with low confidence,” said Harris. “But at STRIVE, I found the support I needed to see my own worth and potential.” Since earning her real estate license, Harris has helped 170 clients purchase homes in the Atlanta area.

Self-described bookworm Dusya Lyubovskaya always wanted to work in a science lab, but she put that dream on hold when she dropped out of high school to help support her family after they came to the U.S. from Russia. Years later, when she was still working two jobs to make ends meet, she decided it was time for a change. Thanks to JVS Boston, a community organization supported by Citizens through LISC, Lyubovskaya got the support she needed to launch her dream career. With help from JVS, she got a high school diploma, new digital skills, and completed a biotechnology career pathway program while earning a college certificate. She then went on to complete an associate’s degree in biology. Today, Lyubovskaya has a job creating chemicals to help keep nuclear power stations safe around the world. “I want to keep going,” she said. “I just want to go to the laboratory, work with my team, and do something productive and beautiful.” LISC Massachusetts
