Leading the development of an economy grounded in local ownership
关于我们
The Local First program exists to support a People First Economy through local ownership. We do this because communities with higher percentages of locally-owned companies are healthier by nearly every social, environmental, and economic indicator. Local First encourages the development of a vibrant, sustainable West Michigan economy by promoting local business ownership, social equity, and environmental stewardship through education, support and collaboration. Since its founding in 2003 as an informal group of local businesses led by Grand Rapids entrepreneur Guy Bazzani, Local First has since grown to represent several hundred locally owned businesses throughout West Michigan. The non-profit organization is now staffed by eight full-time employees led by President Carlos Martinez, and is regarded as a key authority on local business issues and regional economic development. Moving forward, Local First aims to strengthen its position as West Michigan's foremost advocate of locally owned businesses. The largest such network in the Midwest and the 3rd largest per capita in the entire United States, Local First will continue to identify, develop, and share best practices for efficient and effective organization of local business networks. We envision a future in which our communities are characterized by economic prosperity, social equity, and environmental responsibility.
