From Bloomberg this morning: AI in Lobbying: The National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics is releasing today new guidelines for artificial intelligence in lobbying campaigns, Kate Ackley reports. NILE recommends lobbyists disclose when they use AI, take steps to “identify and mitigate biases” in AI systems, use AI to “enhance civic engagement,” and avoid “the dissemination of misleading or false information.” “We are at the early stages of AI and our goal was to be out front ensuring our profession is using AI ethically and in a transparent way,” said NILE founder and board chairman Paul Miller, CEO of Miller Wenhold Capitol Strategies. Miller said the group also will push to modernize lobbying regulations, including the Lobbying Disclosure Act, to account for new advocacy tools such as AI.

ANNOUNCEMENT: NILE Will Release It's AI in Advocacy Code of Ethics Tomorrow AI is rapidly transforming advocacy, and the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics (NILE) is committed to ensuring our profession embraces it ethically and transparently. After a year-long process of gathering extensive input from across the profession, we are proud to release our AI in Advocacy Code of Ethics—a crucial step in setting responsible guidelines for AI’s role in lobbying and public affairs. This effort was collaborative and deliberate, reflecting the perspectives of professionals across the industry. As AI continues to reshape advocacy, NILE remains at the forefront of promoting ethics and openness in how we operate. This code is not a one-time initiative—it is a living document that will evolve as AI’s role grows in lobbying campaigns. However, ethical AI use is only part of the equation. The Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) is outdated and fails to account for modern advocacy tools like AI. We urge Congress to work with us on a comprehensive rewrite to ensure transparency and accountability keep pace with innovation. NILE will continue leading these conversations—because the future of lobbying must be ethical, transparent, and responsible. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this critical effort. The work doesn’t stop here! #ethicsmatter #AIinlobbying #lobbying #
