The November Key Freight & Economic Indicators report is out! Here’s a breakdown of what we’re watching: FTL Market ?? ?? Spot Rates - 1. We’re seeing a ~1% decline from October to the end of November. 2. Then we expect a reversal in December, with spot forecasted to rise 6% MoM due to seasonal holiday demand. 3. Rates are projected to stabilize after December, with no significant demand catalysts anticipated until mid-2025. ?? Weather - The National Weather Service forecasts increased snowstorm activity this winter, especially in the Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes. ?? Port Strikes - The ILA has postponed its strike until January 15. East Coast ports are specifically at risk in early 2025. Macroeconomic Indicators to Watch ?? ?? Manufacturing Sector - The ISM Manufacturing PMI hit 46.5% in October which marking its lowest level in 20 years—a sign of contraction in U.S. manufacturing. The new orders index rose slightly but remains in contraction. This reflects cautious inventory commitments due to inflationary concerns. ?? Industry Performance: Only a few industries within manufacturing saw growth in new orders: Apparel, Leather & Allied, Food, Beverage & Tobacco, and Computer & Electronic.
