LMN Architects and Field Operations open aquarium extension and park in Seattle. Seattle Aquarium's Ocean Pavilion by LMN Helps Revitalize an Urban Waterfront. Architectural Record publishes the exclusive on the project designed by LMN Architects in collaboration with Thinc Design, NY, NY on the October issue of the magazine. “The Seattle Aquarium’s $170 million Ocean Pavilion, designed by LMN Architects, is not an object planted on this park but embedded in it. The steps of the Overlook Walk entwine the curving shoreline-facing wall of the Pavilion. The aquarium’s public terraced and planted roof opens vistas to Puget Sound (now increasingly referred to by the Indigenous name Salish Sea) as it seamlessly joins the walkway and continues to the Market. LMN Architects completes the Field Arts & Events Hall in northern Washington, writing the next chapter in Port Angeles’s timber story. The Architect's Newspaper interviews Partner Julie Adams and Principal Cameron Irwin and publishes the first images of the project, plus a new exclusive short film produced by Strangelife Productions. “Ask anyone to describe Washington State, and the words trees and forest will likely figure in. For the Pacific Northwest state, about half of which is forested, the many species of trees that grow here and their associated industries are central to the identity of this place, both economically and culturally. In Port Angeles, a city on Washington’s northern coast, the forest industry helped propel growth throughout the 20th century, and today timber is once again ushering in a new chapter of development. We are pleased to celebrate The Buxton Center designed by LMN Architects has received a 2024 AIA Washington Council Civic Design Honor Award! The Civic Design Awards celebrate the best examples of what can be realized when architects and civic clients work together to achieve quality design. The selected projects represent the finest standards in innovation, sustainability, building performance, and overall integration with the client and surrounding community. Just across Elliott Bay from Seattle, Washington, the Buxton Center for Bainbridge Performing Arts re-envisions a beloved community theater with a sensitive expansion and renovation, inaugurating a new era for the Bainbridge Island arts community. Reorienting the building to the axial plan of Bainbridge’s Town Square, the new state-of-the-art cultural space helps build a stronger connection to the civic heart of the island. A dramatic new sculptural roof and ceiling plane of expressed wood structure ties together the new program spaces and gives the building a clear identity. The wood-and-glass curtain wall encloses a double-height lobby space, immersing patrons in the lush woodland landscape during the day and creating a welcoming beacon at night. All told, the Buxton Center is set to reinvigorate the local arts community and add a new layer of activation to the cultural heart of Bainbridge Island. How do you design the zoo of the future? Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo debuts Forest Trailhead, catalyzing conservation and community. University of California, Berkeley’s Latest Building Will Decrease its Impact on Global Warming by 54%. The San Francisco Chronicle publishes the first construction images of the new Undergraduate Academic Building designed by LMN Architects in collaboration with TEF Design. “When a new academic building opens at UC Berkeley next school year, students will be able to enjoy the polished wood ceiling that looks like it was carved from a tree in a forest, and hopefully feel a connection to the building. “But that ceiling of black spruce is actually made of mass timber, a prefabricated wood product that forms most of the building — the first structure of its kind on campus.
