We were delighted to welcome a full house of friends and colleagues to the LMAA's Annual Lunch at Trinity House on Thursday 7 November. As always, it was a very convivial event and we are grateful to all who attended. Special thanks go to our guest speaker, leading international arbitrator Juliet Blanch, who gave a fascinating, amusing and ultimately optimistic speech about AI in arbitration.

The LMAA visited Shanghai between 21 and 25 October 2024, having been invited to attend the 4th North Bund Forum. Clive Aston, arbitrator and Past President of the LMAA, gave a keynote speech to the sixth China Maritime Justice and Arbitration Summit Forum.??There were also presentations by Clive and by Gerard Hopkins, the Honoraray Secretary of the LMAA, to Shanghai Maritime University and local P&I Clubs’ offices. The LMAA greatly valued this latest opportunity to meet with maritime and insurance professionals in Shanghai?and the PRC and we look forward to visiting again soon.

The LMAA was delighted to participate at @Istanbul Arbitration Week (ISTAW) last week. Jon Elvey(President, LMAA), Gerard Hopkins (Honorary Secretary, LMAA), Ben Goss (Full Member, LMAA), George Eddings (Aspiring Full Member, LMAA), and George Lambrou FCIArb (Supporting Member, LMAA) led a lively discussion on issues in London maritime arbitration. After the seminar, everyone enjoyed a sunset cruise on the beautiful Bosphorus. We were delighted to see you all. We extend our appreciation to the Turkish Chamber Of Shipping and its Chairman Tamer Kiran, Suleyman BOSCA, Berceste Elif Duranay and everyone at the Energy Disputes Arbitration Center (EDAC), Mehmet Hakan Tufekci and Sinan Guzel for inviting us to take part in such a stimulating and enjoyable day and hosting our visit. We very much look forward to seeing everyone again in Istanbul.

The LMAA was delighted to host a seminar on current arbitration topics at the historic Yacht Club of Greece in Piraeus on Thursday 3 October 2024. LMAA President Jon Elvey introduced speakers Clive Aston (Full Member and Past President), Clare Ambrose (Full Member and the author of London Maritime Arbitration), Ben Goss (Full Member) and George Lambrou FCIArb (Supporting Member). LMAA Honorary Secretary Gerard Hopkins then chaired a forum panel discussion featuring Alexander Freeman (Hill Dickinson LLP), Sally-Ann Underhill (Reed Smith LLP), Helen Yiacoumis (Skuld Hellas), Dimitris Exarchou (HFW LLP) and Evangelos Catsambas (LCI Law). Hugo Wilson of Hecla Emissions Management AS spoke about the FuelEU Maritime regulations coming into force in January 2025. ? Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés with magnificent sunset views of the sea on a beautiful October evening. ? Thanks to everyone who attended and spoke.
