Linda was nominated by 2016 Man of the Year and current Leadership Committee Member, John Brookbank. Linda is joining the fight against blood cancer in memory of her two parents who passed away from lung cancer just 2 months apart, and in honor of her friend Trisha who is a survivor. Cristina was nominated by our 2024 Visionary of the Year, Maurine Fanguy, and is running in memory of her mother who passed away ten years ago. After being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Cristina’s mother received a stem cell transplant which extended her life by about seven years. Cristina is deeply committed to advancing the research that LLS champions and is eager to support the vital work needed to cure blood cancer. Ellie De Groote is no stranger to the LLS family, with years of dedicated involvement. Now, at just 24, she’s taking on one of her professional goals by joining the Visionaries of the Year campaign! Ellie is running in honor of her mom, Krista, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in February 2020. This year’s Grand Finale will be especially meaningful, as it falls just three days before Krista’s five-year anniversary of being in remission. Chelsea is a talented dancer and choreographer who has worked with notable artists like The Roots, LL Cool J, and Missy Elliott, and has danced with Cirque du Soleil. She has made appearances on shows such as BET's Wild 'N Out and is currently featured on Netflix's Dance Monsters. Chelsea also has extensive experience in commercial choreography, collaborating with brands like Nike and Red Bull. Beyond her artistic achievements, Chelsea is a passionate advocate for cancer research, having battled a rare chronic blood cancer since 2011. She supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to help improve the quality of life for those affected by cancer. It is our honor to announce Dillon Walton as one of this year’s Visionaries of the Year candidates! Dillon is running in memory of his mother, Carol Ann Walton, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2000. After fighting valiantly for many years, Carol Ann’s cancer returned for the third and final time this past spring. Dillon, his sister, and his father were the gold lantern holders at this year’s Rockville Light The Night, where they celebrated Carol Ann’s enduring spirit. Dillon is dedicated to carrying forward his mother’s memory and raising money to help find a cure.
