About In the United States there are over 5.6 million people living with limb loss and limb difference, of those are nearly 2.3 million people living with limb loss and over 3.4 million people living with limb difference. Mayo Clinic is undertaking a five-year program to develop, establish, and populate a national limb loss and preservation registry. The project is part of a competitive contract from the National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense. The goal is to collect data so this growing field of research and treatment can be based on reliable evidence.
