Equip youth in developing countries with demand-driven industrial skills
关于我们
The Learning and Knowledge Development Facility (LKDF) is a platform that promotes industrial skills development among young people in industrializing economies. Working with the private sector through Public Private Development Partnerships, the LKDF supports the establishment and upgrading of local industrial training academies to help meet the labour market’s increasing demand for skilled employees, ultimately contributing to inclusive and sustainable industrial development. The long-term success of local industrial academies that partner with the LKDF is ensured through constant monitoring of economic, environmental and social impact. UNIDO manages the facility, on behalf of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the major project donor, and private sector partners.

?? Happy World Sustainable Transport Day!??? Today, we celebrate the role of sustainable transport in creating greener, more resilient economies. Efficient, low-carbon transport is crucial for supply chains and economic growth. Since 2016, UNIDO's Zambian Industrial Training Academy (ZAMITA) project has trained young people in heavy equipment operations, helping to address the skills gap in the transport sectors, making transportation safer and more efficient, and supporting sustainable supply chains. Let’s continue supporting projects like ZAMITA that empower youth and promote sustainable transport. ???? #WorldSustainableTransportDay For more about the ZAMITA project: https://lnkd.in/dHYkxKfV Sida

As we conclude the #LKDForum 2024, we extend a heartfelt thank you to Zambia for its hospitality, the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development | Zambia and the Ministry of Technology & Science Zambia for opening our forum Sida for their continuous support, our speakers and moderator, and our attendees, both in-person and virtual! Your dedication, insights, and engagement made this year’s discussions both inspiring and impactful. This year's Forum focused on the vital role of skills development in fortifying critical raw materials (CRM) supply chains and in driving the global green and digital transitions. ??? The sessions made clear that:? ?? Resilient CRM supply chains are essential for the global green and digital transitions? ?? Strong CRM supply chains require companies and workers to have the right skills, and this requires critical questions about whether skills trainings are truly aligned with industry needs—not just for today, but for the future as well. ?? Environmental, sustainability, and governance principles (ESG) are a vital currency for CRM supply chains' resilience and each component of ESG and intrinsically linked. ?? Public-Private Development Partnerships (PPDPs) are helping to close the skills gap and promoting sustainable practices across industries. These partnerships enable cross-sector collaboration, drive targeted skill-building, and help integrate sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet.? The #LKDForum 2024 teams thank you once again for your contributions. As stated during our closing session, through collaboration, we have the power to reshape CRM supply chains, making them more responsible and resilient. We call on governments, industries, and institutions to invest in skills and partnerships that drive meaningful, sustainable change across global supply chains.? Let’s join forces for a sustainable future! ??? UNIDO Sida Image Promotions Ltd Zambia

Viripi's insights provided a valuable foundation for our discussions on how stakeholders across sectors can collaborate to tackle these pressing challenges. Thank you again, Virpi, for helping us kick off this vital conversation! UNIDO
This year's #LKDForum is taking place in Kitwe, Zambia. The topic “Skills for Critical Raw Materials (CRM) Supply Chains:?Ensuring responsible and sustainable practices?for the Green and Digital Transition” sparked a lively discussion yesterday. Looking at my notes, these are some of the take-aways from the event: 1) ESG is a currency. There continues to be a premium for CRM sustainability, even in the current situation where we see a shift from voluntary sustainability standards to mandatory due diligence compliance. 2) The order of ESG should be GSE. Governance is the core of ESG. If "G" doesn't work, "E" and "S" won't either. 3) When implementing CRM standards, ask these questions: Are you driving change by implementing the standard? Does the standard you’re applying effectively manage risks in the supply chain? 4) Urgent skills needed in the CRM sector (in Zambia): value addition, application of new technologies, critical thinking, innovation. Thank you for the LKDF "dream team" for great organization of this year's forum: Mattias Larsen, Anna Elisa J., Callie Patten, Karin Monaco, Denise Zwiauer. Thank you also Sida for supporting the LKDF, Fifi Peters for great moderation and Juan Pablo Davila and Chie Matsumoto, MBA for the PPDP support in Kitwe. #SkillsforSustainability #GlobalSupplyChains #CriticalRawMaterials UNIDO LKDF - Learning and Knowledge Development Facility Johan Reiman Nader Imani, Ph.D. Elfi Klumpp Anne Kullman Susanna Hughes Ulf Ekdahl Ulrika Hessling Sj?str?m
