In an analysis of pricing data from 1,649 senior living communities — independent living, assisted living and memory care — Chicago-based LivingPath found that resident rental rates are increasing 20% to 30% less quickly this year compared with speed in the past two years.

In an analysis of aggregated pricing data from 1,700 communities, LivingPath, an online platform that collects and provides data on senior housing communities, found that rates are rising 20% to 30% less quickly in 2024 compared to 2023 and 2022. “There is a lagging catch-up still going on to match resident rates with staffing costs, even though wages have not increased materially in most markets since last year,” LivingPath CEO Jonathan Woodrow told Senior Housing News.

Among nurses who work in hospitals, just 15 percent plan to stay in their current role this year. The other 85 percent plan to look for work elsewhere, including in per-diem roles or as travel nurses. 44% of the 3.1m RN job listings are for agency roles.

What this does not show is how much more challenging current conditions are for the other 35-40% of the vs pre-covid given increased borrowing costs and pressure in the labor market. And the physical plant of those assets is another 4 years older.
