?? Staff Spotlight: Grace Kovacich! ?? We’re thrilled to have Grace back on the Living and Learning team! After serving as the Lead Counselor for Lotus Summer Camp 2024, Grace has returned as a Social Skills Facilitator, and we couldn’t be happier! ?? Grace recently graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in psychology (ABA concentration) and a minor in special education. She brings so much energy, creativity, and passion to everything she does—whether she’s facilitating programs, leading activities, or helping our members build meaningful connections. ?? Now leading our 11–14-year-old Saturday Social group, Grace creates interactive, engaging experiences that make learning social skills fun and natural. She’s a rockstar at building connections, jumping into activities, and embracing all the silly moments along the way! Grace is a true go-getter, always ready to take on any challenge with enthusiasm and heart. You will play a key role in fostering a supportive and nurturing environment while assisting members in learning job tasks, and monitoring their progress. Our ultimate goal is to empower members and help them transition into long-term employment. Key Responsibilities: ? Support members in learning and completing job-related tasks ? ?? Celebrating 3 Years of Clinical Services at Living & Learning! ?? Three years ago, we set out to build something incredible—a clinical program that supports our members, trains future clinicians, and continues to grow in impact. Since then, we’ve: ? Revamped our therapy services in 2022, starting with just one clinician and three practicum students ? Guided those students through their program—two are now full-time clinicians in leadership roles! ? Grown from serving 6 ABA members to 18 ? Launched our psychotherapy program, now supporting 13-15 members at a time ? Transformed our space into a warm, welcoming environment that fosters growth and learning ? Expanded our training program—currently mentoring three master’s students to be future clinicians ? Brought billing in-house with a full-time administrative staff ? Upgraded to a fully online EMR system for better data collection ? Our Clinical staff became QBS trained to ensure best practices in de-escalation across our organization The clinical team has come so far, and we’re just getting started! Our members have been hard at work at PacaPoodles, a unique job site where they gain hands-on experience caring for animals and maintaining a clean, organized workspace! ????? Some of their daily tasks include: ? Sweeping and using the shop vac to keep the barn tidy ? Sorting and cleaning fibers for processing ? Feeding and watering animals in the barn (outdoors during warm weather) ? Collecting fresh eggs (weather permitting) ? Tackling additional tasks as needed! This job site provides a great opportunity to build responsibility, teamwork, and independence while working in a fun, farm-like environment. ???? ?? Happy Sunday! It's Time for a Staff Spotlight: Chrissy Idunate ?? Chrissy has been an essential part of Living and Learning since she joined us in September 2021. As a full-time Support Coach in the Vocational department, she splits her time between Voc+ (2 days per week) and Skill Building (3 days per week), making a lasting impact wherever she goes! In Voc+, Chrissy leads "Cooking with Chrissy", oversees product-making projects like sun catchers, pins, and keychains, and works one-on-one with our members to help them develop essential skills. In Skill Building, she provides incredible support at Continental, Meijer Livonia, and the soap studio, helping our members gain independence and confidence in the workplace. Chrissy is deeply in tune with our members and an outstanding advocate for their needs. She is reliable, hardworking, and incredibly conscientious, always ensuring our members receive the best support possible. Her fun personality, great sense of humor, and creativity make her a joy to be around.
