LiveOnNY was proud to be present at the NYPD Guardians Association, Inc. Dinner, where Retired Police Sergeant Michelle Kemp was honored with the Humanitarian Award. Michelle's story of encouraging organ donation after the passing of State Trooper Russell Scott, and the lives saved, including Mary Woods, is truly inspiring. Michelle's advocacy is honoring, changing and saving lives. Life. Pass it on. #LiveOnNY #CommunityHeroes #OrganDonation #GiftOfLife #DonateLife #NYPDGuardians #Inspiration

LiveOnNY, in partnership with the New York Blood Center, hosted its second annual Blood Drive and Resource Fair at Tangram Mall. We were deeply touched by the kindness and generosity of those who helped save lives through blood donation and organ donor registration. A few years ago, people would timidly bypass our table. This year, we had a senior couple walk directly to our table to register as organ donors, a young mom educating her daughter by registering as an organ donor, and a senior calling her daughter to sign the registration form. Because of each person's selflessness, our daily work becomes more meaningful. Shoutout to my colleagues Jeff Grinnell, Dunesh Kaur, Raida Hossain, Charis Li, Alexander Hart, Shane Miller, Mei Hua Ru, Weilu Su,Dan Brown, Rokeya Akhter, Cynthia Raine, @Fausto Santos for all the planning. Special thanks to F&T GROUP, Councilmember @Sandra Ung, Senator @John Liu, and the Queens District Attorney's Office for joining us to help raise awareness in the community. We also extend our gratitude to our community partners: New York-Presbyterian of Queens, New York City Fire Department , NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, @ NYC Commission on Human Rights, @NYC Department of Transportation, KAFSC (Korean American Family Service Center), CAIPA, Inc., Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Garden of Hope, VNS Health, Committee of 100 Documented, Pitta & Baione LLP, and Hyatt Place for working together to raise awareness of health, organ donation, and blood donation. Life. Pass it on. #organdonation #blooddonation #communityengament

LiveOnNY was grateful to join Give Life 5K, Northshore Hospital, and NKF in receiving a $2,500 donation. The donation resulted from their inspiring 5K event in Nassau County, aimed at highlighting the significance of donation. Thanks to the leadership of Mindy Davidson and Bob Goldfarb, they are honoring, changing and saving lives. Life. Pass it on. #LiveOnNY #OrganDonationAwareness #DonateLife #GiftOfLife #CommunityEvent #GiveLife5K #NorthshoreHospital #NKF

This weekend, I joined a panel to talk about a topic I am passionate about — organ donation. Alongside a community advocate and the sister of an organ donor, I shared my own story as a recipient. When I was 23, following an illness that left me blind in my left eye, I received a corneal transplant. The surgery restored my vision, and I am forever grateful to the individual whose cornea I received. I was thrilled that so many people attended the panel, and I was deeply moved that not only were many wiping away tears at the end, but that they stayed to embrace the speakers and ask follow-up questions. While our clients are often on panels — and we help prepare them to do so — this experience gave me another front-seat view of what makes a successful panel: ? Keep it focused – A panel discussion should center on one main topic and explore it from multiple angles rather than trying to cover too much ground. ? Ensure the speakers present different sides of the topic – A panel is most effective when it brings together a range of perspectives. In this case, those came from an educator, a donor family member, and a recipient. ? Make it personal – The most memorable panels connect on an emotional level. Personal stories make abstract topics real and help the audience see themselves in the conversation. ? Share actionable information – Be sure to leave your audience with information about how to get involved, what next steps they can take, or where to find additional resources. A great panel doesn’t just educate — it activates. ? Allow for a short Q&A – Audience engagement is key. Even just a few minutes of Q&A allows people to deepen their understanding. Thank you to Joshua Rabin at LiveOnNY and Mara Bragg for inviting me to be part of such an important, beautiful panel. (Unfortunately no photos were taken at the panel, but this is a photo from a few days before with my perfectly imperfect eye.)

A beautiful tribute in the The New York Times today by Dan Barry capturing the life, death and legacy of organ donor hero Brendan Costello, who saved 3 lives across 3 states, including a directed donation. This story beautifully captures the impact that our amazing staff at LiveOnNY has every day when honoring donors wishes, working with donor families, and collaborating with the #Nurses, #Physicians and #HosptialAdministrstors at donor hospitals like Mount Sinai Morningside, where this story is set. None of this is possible without a donor or donor family saying ‘yes’ and good people advocating to honor their wishes. Thank you Brendan for your gifts of life and for Dan capturing donation and it’s beauty. #Nurses #NP #Physicians #OPO #organdonor #Healthcare #unos #Aopo #OPTN #DonateLife

As a Community and Government Affairs professional, you don’t always get to witness the immediate impact of your work. But, it’s something very special when you do. At LiveOnNY, seeing impact literally translates into lives being saved and legacies being created. This Saturday I was able to spend the day with the Brooklyn Chapter of The Links, Incorporated for their annual Black Family Wellness event. This year was dedicated to thier Chapter member and her son who became a Donor Hero in late 2024. I had the honor to meet with the Chapter just the week prior to her sons passing. We had a wonderful and collaborative discussion about the urgent need for organ donation in Black communities and the strong strides LiveOnNY has made to confront misinformation and health inequalities that disproportionately affect Black Communities. The shout is, armed with the information from our discussion, she shared that she was at peace with making the decision to allow her beloved son to pass on the gift of life to others in need. Apart from my own sister receiving the gift of life 8 years ago, I have never been so moved by this work and motivated to further this mission. Special thank you to my Soror Carla Brown?? Life.
