Live Oak School supports the potential and promise of each student.
关于我们
MISSION: Live Oak School supports the potential and promise of each student. We provide a strong academic foundation, develop personal confidence and the ability to collaborate with others, inspire students to act with compassion and integrity, and nurture a passion for learning to last a lifetime. VISION: To know a child well is Live Oak School’s vision and the responsibility of the entire Live Oak community—faculty, parents, and the students themselves. We know children well so we can teach them well, providing access and challenge for all students. We know them well so they can bring their whole selves – all aspects of their identity – to school so they can be comfortable at school to take the risks that result in real learning. We know them well so they can know themselves well, and grow into people who can advocate for themselves and for others. VALUES: A rich curriculum that provides access and challenge for every student, supporting deep thinking, self-expression, and new perspectives. An inclusive school community that explores and appreciates the differences that define us as individuals. Empathy in our personal relationships to encourage responsibility and integrity in our actions. Joy and humor—In this, we find the willingness to learn from mistakes, the desire to take healthy risks, and the curiosity of childhood.

A LOT of great information sharing at this morning's Professional Development Symposium. This was the second time Live Oak faculty and staff have engaged in this type of professional development, which provides an audience of peers to exchange the wide-ranging learning, strategies, and tools that our faculty are consistently adding to their practice and showing how they can transcend grade levels and content areas. This symposium featured a variety of faculty-led sessions: ?? Constructivist Music and the Orff Method ?? Outdoor Explorers and NGSS ?? AI Resistant and Assisted Teaching Strategies ?? Multiplication Strategies Across Grades ?? Executive Function Skills ? The Wonderful World of Desmos ?? Notes from Ghandi 3.0 ?? Digital Magazines in the Curriculum ?? Using Lego for Learning ?? Skill Not Will: A Mindset for Understanding Challenging Behavior

It brings us a lot of joy to share about the positive impact our newest Young Alumni Changemaker Award recipients are having in their high school and local communities! Justin Babler-Kuebler ’21 and Nala Urrutia ’21 have become leaders in furthering accessibility and representation within their schools. Keep an eye on these two changemakers as their passions and skills move them towards taking on new challenges in college and their careers. We invited them to campus for Changemaker Day in January so they could educate and inspire our current students, showing them that meaningful impact can be accomplished at any age. In 2014, Live Oak awarded its first annual Alumni Changemaker Award. This was expanded in 2022 by the creation of the Young Alumni Changemaker Award, geared toward recognizing current high school students making positive change in their world. Proud to see our Director of Advancement Francisca Guzman contributing her thoughtful insight at a session during the #CASENAIS Independent Schools Conference in Washington D.C. this past week. The session, titled "Using DASL Data in Advancement: Examples from the Field" led by Hilary LaMonte and Cara Giacomini, PhD, centered around showcasing how different schools use data to maximize their advancement work. Francisca's presentation highlighted a variety of ways that Live Oak's careful consideration of various data points is consistently refining and growing the School's fundraising efforts in meaningful and measurable ways.
