Exciting to see the cold storage facility come to fruition! “It is more than just a cold storage facility,” says Amir Mousavian, an associate dean and supply chain management professor at the University of New England. “It has the potential to serve as a pivotal asset that will reshape Portland’s economic landscape, bolster its logistics and supply chain capabilities, and drive sustainable growth for years to come.” While Portland (Maine) is one of the smaller U.S. markets, it is poised to punch above its weight as a regional logistics hub for seafood, produce, food and beverage products and biopharmaceuticals that need to be stored and transported at super-cryogenic temperatures. https://lnkd.in/gwtE_6mP

Interesting development in Millinocket at the former Great Northern paper mill. The facility is expected to be operational by 2027. And according to Our Katahdin, a community development nonprofit, the new project should create 150 construction jobs, and once up and running, 80 full-time jobs in the area. https://lnkd.in/e9t3quu2

A new study commissioned by DECD, titled "Why People Move to Maine", surveyed people who moved to Maine from other states in recent years. —57% of employed migrants reported working for an employer with a physical location in Maine, —43% reported working for an employer with no physical location in Maine. —Of those working for an organization or business not located in Maine, 44% reported they would consider working for a Maine-based business, organization, or government. —14% percent of employed migrants reported being self-employed, with just over 30% having started their business or professional practice after moving to Maine. —Almost 70% of self-employed migrants brought their business or practice to Maine from a previous location. —Of the migrant population reporting as employed, nearly one-third (30%) reported they always worked remotely, while 11% reported working remotely most of the time. —More than 80% of respondents who previously worked remotely indicated that working remotely enabled them to keep their jobs while moving to Maine. Most of these migrants work for an employer with no physical presence in Maine. You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gSsgjF72
