关于我们
When it comes to health indicators, Alabama ranks among the lowest in the U.S. In Alabama, 67% of people are living with a chronic disease—that’s almost 7 out of every 10 people you know. Health is a complex equation, dealing not only with the provision of medical care, but with a broad series of factors impacting the lives of individuals and neighborhoods. These factors include zip code, income, education, race/ethnicity, family history, and many other issues. At Live HealthSmart Alabama, we are implementing changes to remove barriers to making healthy choices—with a specific focus on reducing those barriers in education, good nutrition, physical activity, and prevention & wellness.

The first Selma Farmers Market was a huge success, thanks to the dedication of our partners and the excitement of the Selma community! Participants enjoyed a nutritious meal prepared by Barbara Phillips, from the Dallas County Extension Office, and shopped for fresh, local produce, supporting area farmers and reinforcing the importance of sustainable, community-driven food. During our Shopper Appreciation event at Birmingham Towers, we provided shoppers with $25 vouchers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from our Mobile Market. One shopper shared his heartfelt appreciation, saying, “It brings a little extra thing to the table. I give them my humble appreciation and I thank them. They’ve blessed Birmingham Towers today with love.” His words remind us why we do what we do. ?? We look forward to bringing more events like these to other communities across the city.
