Engagement is personal. It starts with the individual-- the human being. Engagement is not just about a survey and creating an action plan to improve or maintain a certain score. Yes, we get what we measure, and the lagging indicator revealed from a survey provides good, reflective data. When we address the humans in the room-- their whole life and their values-- we truly get at the underpinning of the individuals who then collectively make up a team. I facilitated this amazing group yesterday through their engagement action planning session. We used the survey results as pre-work to reflect on surprises, strengths and opportunities (no different than typical engagement action plans). Then we focused on their individual whole life fulfillment, their values, and then translated that to an engagement action plan which felt very relevant and meaningful to them. It provided a benefit that extends to their whole life, not just the career piece. And when we address the whole life, it's the tide that lifts all boats. I'll let them comment below if they wish!
