Shaftesbury is the disability charity that enables each child, young person and adult to live a life that adds up.
About us
Shaftesbury is the disability charity that enables each child, young person and adult to live a life that adds up for them. What makes life add up is different for everyone. It’s the sum of many things and many people - from friendship to fun; from companionship to community; from a great chat to a challenge overcome. ‘All together better for disability’ means working with the people we support, promoting inclusion, independence and opportunity. All together we are better; it’s why we work to see people take part, contribute and be valued. We do this through our wide range of disability care, special education and rehabilitation services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Our Vice-Patron, Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury, was today invited to unveil a blue plaque to honour 11-year old George Brewster, a chimney sweep whose tragic death in 1875 led to significant reforms in child labour laws. Our founder, Anthony Ashley-Cooper, the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, helped bring about these changes in parliament. Today we can still see his and George’s legacy and the plaque serves as a poignant reminder of the progress made in protecting children's rights. Their stories continue to inspire our work today, working to ensure life adds up for the children and adults we support. https://ow.ly/RAgO50UYLbi
