Our Vice-Patron, Nicholas Ashley-Cooper, the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury, was today invited to unveil a blue plaque to honour 11-year old George Brewster, a chimney sweep whose tragic death in 1875 led to significant reforms in child labour laws. Our founder, Anthony Ashley-Cooper, the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, helped bring about these changes in parliament. Today we can still see his and George’s legacy and the plaque serves as a poignant reminder of the progress made in protecting children's rights.
