?? Low Participation Today = Underrepresentation Tomorrow The data is clear: Early participation shapes future opportunities. Yet, in afterschool programs, only 36% of girls engage in technology and engineering, and 39% in computer science. This limited participation mirrors their underrepresentation in the workforce: Just 15% of engineers are women. Only 25% of computer science professionals are women. These statistics highlight a crucial connection: To close the workforce gender gap, we must start by addressing the barriers limiting girls’ participation in these disciplines. ?? At Little Ivy Academy, we’re committed to empowering girls with hands-on STEM experiences that build confidence, critical thinking, and pathways to success.

When I first started Little Ivy Academy in 2012, I held many roles, director, curriculum writer, and even instructor! One of my memories from those early days was of these two young girls who signed up for our very first robotics lab. These two girls dove headfirst into the building and created some amazing projects. One of my favorite creations of theirs was a robotic flower that stood almost a foot tall and spun when someone walked past its sensor! It is one of my favorite memories because it perfectly captures what I love about STEAM, it’s about what you can do and what you’re willing to try, not who you are. Those girls never questioned their place or were dissuaded from testing & experimenting with their creations, and the boys never questioned the girls’ place in the lab either. This is why I believe so strongly in providing STEAM education to all kids, because it is meant for ALL Kids, and they know it! #womenshistorymonth #girlsinstem #Sheinspiresme #NJSTEMmonth

The other week, I was talking about one of my favorite science experiments, the egg drop, and it got me thinking about how I ended up with the opportunity to discover this experiment in my elementary school’s Gifted & Talented program! Gifted and talented programs are wonderful resources because they allow schools to provide differentiated instruction for students who need more challenge and engagement. They have impacted both me and many other students who participate in them each year.? #NJSTEMMONTH

Good news everyone, our monthly newsletter is out and ready for you! As you may know, March is #WomensHistoryMonth Month so we wanted to highlight some of the many famous women in STEM! Especially women like Dr. Katalin Kariko, who not only pioneered the research into mRNA vaccines, but helped to create one of the very first (and highly effective) ones to combat Covid19! Take a read of her and other women’s contributions to our world! https://lnkd.in/e_ZeDkmP?
