Do you find this amazing or horrifying? This researcher just "tested SciSpace Deep Review AI, which analyzed 1750 papers and wrote a 3,050-word lit review - in three minutes." ?? Research today is evolving at a break-neck pace, that only ever accelerates into newer and more powerful AI models. But, no matter if you think this is GOOD or BAD, you probably still need to know one thing: How do we do research in a world dominated by AI? This is one of the key talks our upcoming Future Ready Scholar Conference. Learn how to get ready for this unbelievable "future" - which is already here. I help academics learn how digital note-taking, AI and literature review tools can transform their careers
I tested SciSpace Deep Review AI, which analyzed 1750 papers and wrote a 3,050-word lit review - in three minutes. While the output isn’t ready for direct publication, the level of detail is remarkable. AI-assisted tools like this are changing how researchers conduct literature reviews, making the process faster and more structured. Running a Deep Review before you even start can save you countless hours by guiding you in the right direction and identifying open research questions. Deep Review mentioned major developments of the field and summarized pros and cons of various approaches, which is something that would have taken me at least a day previously. You still will need to take notes, but can save time on picking out what is relevant and what isn't. How It Works: 1. Enter a Research Question – Start by visiting?typeset.io/search?and typing in a preliminary research question, just as you would for a literature search. 2. Select “Deep Review” – Below the search box, choose this option to activate AI-powered literature synthesis. 3. Refine Your Query – The tool will ask follow-up questions to understand the scope of your research better and ensure relevance. 4. Submit and Process – Once the enhanced query is precise enough, submit it, and the AI will analyze relevant papers. 5. Review the Output – In a few minutes, you receive a structured review with references, summarizing key themes and findings. According to SciSpace, DeepReview outperforms ChatGPT in generating literature reviews. While AI cannot replace a researcher’s critical thinking, it can significantly speed up the first draft and provide useful insights. SciSpace is also planning to launch a new feature that helps you access?the papers beyond SciSpace! With their Browser control, you will be able to access papers across other databases, including Google Scholar, Science Direct, university repositories, and more.? Most researchers find literature reviews exhausting. But do they really need to be? You might start your literature review, and suddenly find there are 1,000s of papers. You don’t know which ones actually matter. And it's easy to waste hours digging through PDFs, afraid of missing something important. But the worst part? The more you read, the less clarity you have. ? You feel stuck. ? You don’t know when to stop. ? You’re not even sure if you’re reading the right papers. ?? The fix? Strategy. ?? Instead of aimlessly searching, cut through the noise with a clear strategy with Litmaps: ? Search your topic → Instantly find the most relevant papers. ? See the citation network → Focus on the key research, not the clutter. ? Curate your reading list → Actually find & save papers to grow your literature review. Literature reviews don’t have to feel endless. Find what matters, skip the rest. ?? Try Litmaps and make your lit review manageable. What’s your biggest struggle with literature reviews? Let’s talk. _________________ We're on a mission to help accelerate impactful science. Join us. ?? Follow us for research tips at Litmaps ? Learn more about lit review at our upcoming webinar! PhDs, have you noticed how you're turning chaos into clarity? ???? Writing a literature review isn’t just a hurdle—it’s a skill that sets you apart as a researcher. Think about it. You take 100 of papers, find patterns, synthesize ideas, and craft a compelling narrative that shapes your field. That’s no small feat! At its core, every great literature review has 3 key parts. Mastering them makes you a stronger scholar: ?? 1?? Introduction – The Foundation ?? Define your research topic and scope ?? Set the stage with your research question ?? Explain why this review matters ?? 2?? Main Body – The Investigation ?? Summarize & analyze key studies ?? Group research by themes, methods, or chronology ?? Highlight contradictions and gaps (this is where breakthroughs happen!) ?? 3?? Conclusion – The Big Picture ?? Summarize key insights ?? Identify what’s missing in the research ?? Set the direction for future studies When you nail these 3 parts, you’re not just writing a lit review—you’re building the intellectual foundation for your field. And here’s the thing: Mastering this process makes you an expert in critical thinking, synthesis, and research design—skills that are invaluable inside and outside academia. ?? So if you’re knee-deep in your lit review right now, remind yourself: You’re not just summarizing. You’re shaping the conversation. ?? PhDs and researchers—what’s the hardest (or most rewarding) part of writing a literature review for you? Share below! ?? _________________ We're on a mission to help accelerate impactful science.
