  • There are two kinds of readers: those who love the way books look on their shelves but lack the patience to read them, and those who are always buried in a book, lost in its pages. Whether you admire the design or crave the thrill of stepping into another world to find yourself—cheers to you! ??

  • CONTROVERSIAL POST The other day, Trump said, “I got the worst publicity ever, and I somehow still won.” It really makes you think—how much does publicity actually matter? Whether it’s negative or positive, it all seems to work the same. Take Mel Gibson, for example. A recorded phone call surfaced where he was labeled racist and vulgar. Yet, his career still thrives. Or Blake Lively—regardless of what she does, she will still land roles, and Ryan Reynolds will remain a household name. I recently made a controversial post about EDITORS, and I made one key mistake: I should have specified editors for 75,000-word novels. That’s a completely different breed of editor. But here’s what’s interesting—I usually get 50-60 profile views per week. After that post, I hit 800. Not only that, but people unfamiliar with the publishing world messaged me, saying they found it valuable and now understand the importance of expectations from an editor for their novel. The takeaway? BE BRAVE. Share what you know. Educate people from your personal experience—because at the end of the day, real experience is one of the most powerful things you can offer!

Serious Novelists Deserve Serious Editors If your manuscript is over 30,000 words, don’t settle for an editor who can’t offer the same level of expertise and dedication as a major publishing house. At Novel House Publishing, we may be a small business LPB but we hold our process to the highest standards, ensuring your NOVEL gets the attention it deserves. When hiring an editor, make sure they provide: ? Developmental Editing – Addressing plot, pacing, and character development while maintaining continuity. ? Collaborative Meetings – Engaging discussions to refine your vision. ? Comprehensive Editing – Covering grammar, line editing, and structural clarity. ? Fact-Checking & Continuity Reviews – Eliminating inconsistencies and inaccuracies. ? Thorough Proofreading – Ensuring polished, publication-ready work. ? Beta Reading with Accountability – Honest feedback from readers who stand by their evaluations. At Novel House Publishing, we don’t just proofread—we refine, elevate, and perfect. This is a system of 3-4 people involved. If you’re ready to take your novel to the next level, then work with a process that treats your book like a bestseller in the making.

I’ve hired over 14 freelance editors in the last three years, and most catch about 60% of the errors and corrections that need to be made. If you’re a freelancer who can catch 100%, I doubt you’re charging $400 for 75,000 words—you’re a rare breed, and I’d be surprised if a publishing house hasn’t hired you already. One person responded to my last post claiming they used to work for a publishing house, but that’s not a freelancer who’s not a professional editor. They have a ton of credentials to back them up. PROOF. Those types of people who go out on their own and have a creative business, usually have consistent work because they have the word of mouth privilege, and profile exposure to back them up. The point of my last post was to emphasize that editors should charge what they’re worth and have someone double-checking thier work, to ensure quality results.

  • Creating a book involves an extensive and sometimes tedious editing process. Beyond refining the manuscript, you need to format it to a standard book size, typically 6” x 9”. A book designer is essential for crafting a professional cover, as AI-generated designs often require manual adjustments for text placement and graphics. Additionally, you’ll need to write a compelling blurb—your book’s summary—to attract readers. Another major decision is choosing between traditional publishing and self-publishing, as each impacts printing and distribution costs. Understanding the platforms available for e-books, paperbacks, and hardcovers is also crucial. Publishing requires expertise and significant effort, which is why costs can add up. While affordable options exist, the quality of your book will often reflect the investment you put into it.

  • WHY AI CHATGPT IS A MISTAKE Using AI to write your book might seem efficient, but it has serious limitations and relying on it is a mistake. Here are the essential points to consider: ? Duplicate Content: AI may not catch repetitive or redundant sections. ? Grammar Checks: It fixes about 95% of errors, leaving some mistakes unaddressed. ? Fact-Checking: AI won’t verify factual accuracy, risking misleading or incorrect details. ? Continuity & Structure: It struggles with plot holes, narrative inconsistencies, and overall structure. ? Creative Nuances: Elements like emotional impact, pacing, and character development require human intuition. While AI is useful for brainstorming and early drafts, relying solely on it isn’t enough. An experienced editor and insightful beta readers are essential to polish your work and ensure your story resonates with readers. In short, AI should be seen as a helpful tool, not a complete solution for writing your book.

Educating new authors about how much work/money books take is an hour long conversation. We partner with a marketing company but we don't market. However, if you wanted to market your book, here are some ideas that the company we work with does: Marketing a Book: Three Strategies & Their Costs Marketing a book effectively requires a combination of strategy, creativity, and investment. Here are three ideas to promote a book and their estimated costs: 1. Social Media Ads & Influencer Marketing ($300–$1,500) Running targeted ads on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok can help reach potential readers based on their interests. Collaborating with book influencers or micro-influencers (those with 5K–50K followers) can also create organic buzz. Expect to spend $100–$500 on ads and another $200–$1,000 if working with influencers. 2. Book Launch Event & Local Partnerships ($200–$2,000) Hosting an in-person or virtual book launch can generate excitement. Partnering with indie bookstores, libraries, or cafes for a signing can attract local readers. Costs may include venue rental ($100–$500), refreshments ($50–$200), and promotional materials ($50–$300). Virtual events are more budget-friendly, requiring only marketing efforts. 3. Book Blog Tours & Press Releases ($100–$1,000) Reaching out to book bloggers and sending ARCs (advance review copies) can create online momentum. Press releases distributed via services like PRWeb or local news contacts can increase visibility. Costs include ARC printing ($50–$200) and press release distribution ($50–$600). A well-balanced marketing strategy combining these approaches can maximize exposure while keeping costs manageable.
