Literacy Texas is the statewide literacy coalition, connecting and equipping Texas literacy providers with resources, training, networking, and advocacy. We believe every person in Texas has a right to literacy. We understand that literacy is more than just reading and writing: it is competency and understanding; it is achieving goals to reach our full potential as members of our shared society. We provide leadership, professional development, and support to community-based organizations providing literacy services, and to adult education programs throughout the state to build capacity and improve literacy levels in Texas. Our vision is that every literacy organization in Texas will have the resources it needs to help as many people as possible learn basic literacy skills in order to participate fully in society. Literacy Texas members work tirelessly across all corners of this great state. We support them through strong key services including a flagship conference featuring best practices for adult educators. Additionally, Literacy Texas offers a series of free, one-day symposia held throughout the state in partnership with local literacy organizations. We have a special focus on providing professional development for tutors, staff, instructors, and volunteers at nonprofit organizations providing adult literacy services. Literacy Texas encourages and incubates literacy groups around the state to increase their capacity through collaboration. At the state level, we advocate on behalf of the adult education community to ensure their voices are heard in all areas of business and government. If you were at our conference this past summer, you may remember some lucky folks won tickets to attend the Families Learning conference in Kentucky (held by the National Center for Families Learning). Well, that conference just happened, and here's winner Shauna, having an amazing time! In her words: "I'm at the conference and loving every moment of it. The Kentucky First Lady gave a wonderful speech yesterday, today I got to meet the author Daniel W. Vandever (and get some books signed!), and every session I've attended has been very useful.?I've had a great time at this conference, learned a lot, and met so many amazing people. I cannot express enough how thankful I am for this opportunity." ? Oh, how we love learning! ??

COABE will soon be sharing thoughts on how to introduce yourself to the new members of the 119th Congress. In the meantime, as conversations continue in Washington in the lame duck session that began this week, they continue to urge you to share with your current members of Congress the following messages: ? Provide $810 million for the Adult Education State Grants program in FY2025; and ? Support the full inclusion of the Adult Education WORKS Act (S. 3075/H.R. 5987) in a final bill to reauthorize the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The house looks absolutely perfect. Right size kitchen, big bedrooms, a sunny living room – this is the one. You talk to the realtor about making an offer and getting an inspection done. But – “Oh no, the owner won’t allow an inspection,” she says with a smile. “You can just take our word for it that everything’s fine.
