关于我们
The mission of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy. Our goal is to ensure that every child and every adult in Palm Beach County becomes A READER. We Serve The mother who can't read a letter sent home by her daughter's teacher. The worker who claims he left his glasses at home rather than admit he can't read the instructions left by his boss. The preschool child who lives in a home that doesn't contain a single book. The family who lives in poverty because the parents don't have the literacy skills to qualify for a job that pays a family-sustaining wage. One in seven adults in Palm Beach County is unable to read and understand the information found in books, newspapers, magazines, brochures and manuals. Through extensive outreach and collaboration with a network of community partners, the Literacy Coalition strives to ensure that individuals who need to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need. In 2023-2023, the Literacy Coalition provided services to 55,967 adults, children and families through our programs.

The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County and PNC Grow Up Great teamed up to host this year’s Read for the Record event at the Boynton Beach Arts and Cultural Center. Preschool students from the Coalition’s Glades Family Education program in Belle Glade and the Atkins Tender Loving Care Childcare in Riviera Beach participated in Storytime and activities. Tania Rogers of WPTV and Cindy Pilloni of PNC read this year's Read for the Record book, "Piper Chen Sings," to the children. The children also enjoyed an activity in the butterfly garden. In Palm Beach County, 46% of third-grade students are reading below grade level. The goal behind Read for the Record is to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for every child so that all children can enter kindergarten prepared to succeed. With support from the PNC Foundation through its signature philanthropic initiative, PNC Grow Up Great, the Coalition coordinated Read for the Record across the county. PNC Grow Up Great helps prepare children from birth through age 5 for success in school and in life, with a particular emphasis on underserved communities. Launched in 2004, PNC Grow Up Great is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. “PNC is proud to join the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County in bringing this event to our community and highlighting the critical importance of early literacy,” said Cressman Bronson, PNC regional president for Southeast Florida. “Through programs like this, we can help students establish a lifelong love of reading and create a foundation for success in school and life.” PNC WPTV #ReadForTheRecord2024 #literacycoalitionofpbc #literacypbc #literacy #nonprofit #books #palmbeachcounty #reading #literacymatters #communityfirst

The Coalition is grateful for the local campaign support of PNC Grow Up Great to once again join in the efforts of Jumpstart's national Read for the Record Campaign. Thank you to the PNC team including Cindy Pilloni. In Palm Beach County, the Coalition is working with municipal leaders, businesses and individual volunteers to make a huge impact and raise awareness of the importance of early literacy. The 2024 Read for the Record book is "Piper Chen Sings" by Grammy winner and Tony-nominated actress Phillipa Soo, Maris Pasquale Doran and illustrated by Qin Leng. The Read! Lead! Succeed! program dived into the new school year at Fath Lutheran School in North Palm this month. Students enhanced their social-emotional skills through literacy with books such as "I am Peace" by Susan Verde. They also got to use a variety of art mediums to explore their creativity as an extension of the stories they read. As they learned about mindfulness, they decorated stress relief squish toys and practiced breathing exercises to calm down and relax. The Read! Lead! Succeed! program promotes literacy, creativity, and self-awareness for K-5th grade youth. ?????????? Read! Lead! Stories and STEM kicked off the school year at Hagen Ranch Road Elementary’s afterschool program. These 3rd graders are having a blast learning about everything from sound to microscopes. These youth have become particular fans of the graphic novel series "Squish" by Jennifer and Matthew Holm, which follows a “kid” like them who just happens to be an amoeba!
